I like Ke Chun and this Republican era drama has mini drama vibe that I typically enjoy. The plot is nothing new but sizzling chemistry between leads would make me finish & enjoy the drama. However the lack of chemistry between Ke Chun and Yu Jia Lin led me to drop after 20th episode.

Wonderfully written review. I didn't know about the Korean drama/movie that may have inspired The Love of a Fool. That's interesting. Since you haven't watched Zhao Xi Xi's dramas, I highly recommend Sensual Pleasure (co-starring Zhen Zi Qi) and Into the Abyss (co-starring Huang Bo).
Wonderfully written review. I agree on your viewpoints about the three characters and the potential marriage option for Hao Xun and Zhi Xia. To me, this is a story of a woman unwilling to accept her husband's death and a man so desperate for a woman's love he chooses to be a stand in and keep his identity hidden long term. And yes, I was surprised by how much details Hao Nan shared with his brother.
