Can anyone recommend something similar? My husband watched this too and loved it, want to show him something else now, but My Mister and My Liberation Notes felt somehow darker to me (but he will surely watch those eventually). Is there anything similar that also does not spend 70% of time on romance and doesn’t have a lot of suffering? Something that is wholesome, deep, and not too much cringe comedy.

Thanks for the recs! I've got nothing against the pure entertainment dramas, but something deeper is surely on another level for me, so I wish it would be easier to discover... Please share if you discover other sources.

Korean culture is so heavy on politics and corruption, so here it felt unavoidable I guess, and the episode 5 gets worse with its election storyline, but luckily it ends there, and they start to delve deeper into Mr. Shin personal backstory since episode 6, which also investigates a rental scam alongside friendship and family drama, which is thankfully strays away from politics and has very satisfying moments. Then it shifts into a dangerous killer on the loose and an employment scam which also has a more personal feel.

I'm sure we'll still end up with some grand corruption scheme by higher ups in the finale, but I started to really enjoy the personal side stories and character interactions, and now can't wait for the postponed episode. I know the series in general is not the usual drama fan cup of tea, but looks like it's doing great in Korea, and I had success showing it to people that usually don't watch kdrama at all.

If some of those upcoming storylines feel interesting enough, you could try giving the series another chance.
