Killer had planned the murder meticulously and was surprised by some unexpected event.
Two possible scenarios - 1. If girl was faking her death then it could be a setup that "killer got surprised" and hence never put the body into the dug pit and had to do thinks hastily
2. Our FL could be that surprise and walked in on the murder
**************************** From FL's perspective, she knows her dad has always suspected her of killing the brother.... now if we assume she never killed anyone, this "doubt" is detrimental to her psyche... so if she does find herself in a murder situation then her default action will be to eliminate all evidence of her ever being there because her dad will never believe her that she is not the killer....
hence burning the red thing... and maybe she really does want to run away from her dad like those girls.. and that's why on purpose stole the phone
