different from the novel, but good in its own right
The King's Avatar drama has a very different vibe than the novel - it's light and fluffy and goofy, for one. Some characters are changed and the plot is shuffled a bit. As someone who watched it because I loved the novel so much, part of me was disappointed by the difference. The rest of me, though, loved it in an entirely different way. I've re watched a few times now.It's funny and not a romance. The main characters are generally full adults, with a sense of fun but some maturity thrown in too. Side characters get plenty of screen time and character development. The in-game CGI scenes are decent. The music is good and the pacing isn't too fast or too slow. I'd recommend The King's Avatar to pretty much anybody, at least to give it a try. Definitely my favorite esports drama by far.

bizarre
really bizarre and not in the best way. in my opinion none of the characters were particularly sympathetic or likeable at all, which is fine at times for some films, but for this one it was hard to stay engaged beyond just watching the train wreck in motion. the plot was also a little meandering and not the most clear or engaging. it did have potential for intrigue and I liked some of the film's premise, but I just couldn't get into it as a whole with the way it was executed. the humor didn't grab me and neither did the story.Was this review helpful to you?
fluffy and fun
if you're looking for a genuinely light hearted romance that still manages to have some intrigue and a relatively interesting plot, Wrong Carriage Right Groom is a show for you. no spoilers here - but the show is kept interesting till the last minute without ever getting TOO heavy and always maintaining a good sense of humor. sure, it's fluffy and a little empty-headed and cliche at times, but in a good way that leaves you with a laugh and a warm heart. fully recommend if you're tired of heavier series and want something that's just fun to watch.Was this review helpful to you?
it grew on me
it's definitely a pretty quality show. effects are nice, acting is decent, plot is okay. but the first time I tried watching it I just could not get into it. I didn't feel sympathetic to the FL and the relationship dynamics felt flat, and even though I wasn't necessarily watching for the romance it still made me bored, as the romance is the main thing.that said I came back to it a couple of times and once I got halfway it finally grew on me and I watched to the end. I do think the dynamics and the characters themselves grow and get a bit better, though it still may not be my cup of tea. I was invested by the end though in the plot to the point where I'll gladly give a pretty good rating.

good comedy
Goofy, silly humor throughout. Very slapstick physical comedy through a lot of it and done very well. Has great "bumbling gangster movie" vibes and the actors really sell it, especially the side characters. Plenty of the archetypical goons.The FL is a great character, funny and tough. The rest of the cast are hilarious. Story is decent enough, acting is okay, but mostly it's just a good fun time.
I definitely enjoyed it. Would recommend to anybody looking for a fun movie. Even the violence comes off like physical comedy.

great sense of humor
One of my favorite recent watches. More funny than scary for most of the movie, but has plenty of decent suspenseful moments where you can really feel the tension. Has a great ambience and cinematography.The actors are great too. The physical comedy is top tier. I was genuinely laughing through a lot of the film.
The plot isn't bad and is fairly original. Overall pretty great. Loses maybe half a star for being a bit cheesy at times but honestly that just adds to the humor. Would recommend to anyone.

fascinating
This movie is a fantastic series of twists and turns. One of the few I've seen recently where I genuinely couldn't predict what would happen next the majority of the time. Very decent quality too - pretty good actors, cinematography, etc. And the effects aren't terrible.Some later parts in the film might be a little unsatisfying (no spoilers here) but even those parts are thought-provoking and interesting so I'm unbothered. When it's funny it's very funny, and when it's dramatic you can feel the suspense. Overall a very decent movie much better than the cheap lighthearted film I figured I was getting into.

Far from the worst movie I've ever watched but also far from the best. The aesthetics are pretty great even though they're cheesy and dated - that's the point. Same with the fight scenes. Watch for that and you're good.The actual plot isn't great but at least it's fairly original. The acting is decent enough and I like the actors themselves.
My main issue was that despite it being an action movie I was repeatedly left bored for long stretches despite how the weird premise should've kept me very entertained. When it was fun, it was very fun. It just isn't fun all the time, so loses a couple stars for that.
Not a bad thing to watch anyway. Turn your brain off for a bit and enjoy.

weird and great
In some ways it's a really standard action movie of its time and not very good. In other ways it's an incredibly weird, twisting adventure. I loved and hated it at the same time.I mostly watched for the dated aesthetics which are great, as well as the actors. The plot is mediocre, effects are mediocre, but the fight scenes are extensive and visually appealing. Sometimes a little too long, but it's the kind of movie where you expect that, if not look forward to it.
Without giving spoilers... the skeleton part was my favorite part, hands down. How bizarre.

cliche, not awful
Decent movie. Very cliche type of plot - marine biologist guy, mermaid girl, romance. Pacing isn't the best at times and romance falls a little flat imo, and there aren't really any other meaningful relationships to speak of.No spoilers, but the end wasn't very satisfying to me, to the point where I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, even though the movie as a whole really isn't terrible.
Decent effects, okay acting, etc. Plot that's coherent at least even though it's fairly shallow. Definitely not the worst even among bad mermaid movies.

funny and heart wrenching
I went into this for a lighthearted comedy. Without giving spoilers, it goes further than that and is very emotional at times. Almost made me cry more than once.It is funny, though. The filming/editing style is periodically cartoonish and silly, juxtaposed with serious moments that actually hit hard. The drama can get intense, and then immediately be lightened up by humor right after.
While not really what I expected, in a lot of ways it was better than I expected. So a good rating from me. I'll remember this one for a while.

Awful in a good way
This is the kind of movie that's so bad it becomes good, which was pretty obvious going into it. Don't expect great acting or great effects, they're terrible - but in the best way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.I'd rate it higher if it were just a little better quality. It felt inconsistent. Some fight scenes were fairly good, others abysmal. Same with the acting in general. If it were more consistent and had just a bit higher production value I'd recommend it as a funny, cringe action comedy. As is, it's all right.

Could've been worse, but definitely also could've been a lot better. The story wasn't terrible but it wasn't particularly engaging either. I was only moderately entertained the whole time - enough not to turn it off, but not enough to really recommend it.The music and visuals are somewhat decent, though the effects are pretty bad. The acting is okay, not great. There isn't even much to say about this movie except that somehow, I've seen worse, so it still gets a 6.5 from me.
Needs more mermaid content though, for a movie with mermaid in the title. Now THAT was the real disappointment.

bizarre, but not bad
In some ways this movie was exactly what I expected (a family comedy with plenty of action and arguing). In other ways this is a very strange film. Starts off innocuous, descends into slight strangeness and then total chaos. I was left staring at the credits wondering what the hell I'd just watched and unable to tell if I enjoyed it, for quite a while.The humor is decent, the characters are decent, and I can't say much further without spoilers so I'll leave it at that - just give it a try.

roller-coaster of a movie
Start to finish this was an interesting watch. I was fully engaged the whole time. It has action, comedy, romance, the works, and all of it's decent.It is, to be fair, very weird. The premise is a little odd but the execution is even more so. Half the time I barely had a grip on what was happening - but I somehow feel like that enhanced the experience. And eventually things all come together in a neat, satisfying package.
If you like slightly-weird-but-genuinely-good movies, you won't regret watching this one.
