On When the Weather Is Fine Oct 24, 2024
Ok so i might need a little help here. :')
I've been dropping a lot of dramas in their first 1-2 episodes lately. So i decided that, even if it's boring, cliche, draggy etc, i'll give all dramas i start a 4-episodes chance. I just finished the 4th episode of this one and im kinda stuck between dropping or keep going.
First of all, i dont mind slow dramas. I actually like them. My 2 faves are SiTR and MLN. But in both dramas, i found a piece of me. Be it the age, the stage they went thru etc. Also the main couples had great chemistry. And there were some kind of real action (doesnt have to be physical) in both. However in this one, i still havent felt that connection. They're not boring or irritating or anything, but they're not, in any way, attractive either (i dont mean that as in their physical features, i mean their personalities).
The story isnt half as draggy as my fave dramas tbh, so if the pace is this level, im fine. I do hate the frequent flashbacks tho, they are very verryy unnecessary imo. They're not telling an interesting story or add any complementary element to the current story either so why so many flashbacks?
So should i go on? This is a romance so obv the main couple will start dating but if it's gonna tell the story of village people's advantures or boring childhood memories of the couple, i think it'd be a waste of time. What should i do?

Title Call It Love Spoiler
Slow burn romance: cool for me
Slow pace: dont mind at all
I mean Something in the Rain and My Liberation Notes are my two most favorite shows for crying out loud :D
But..!
I'm also boringly realistic. If the story is out of the ordinary as a whole, and doesnt have too many plot holes, i like it.
But if the story is extremely common but the events are not natural in the flow of life, i cant watch it.
No matter how much of a pushover the ML is (which is extremely out of the ordinary and doesnt make sense) you as an intern, cannot act like a piece of s**t to him. It's so against the flow of life. No boss will ever stand that.
Plus everything was so predictable, no surprises.
I hated the ML and i hated the FL even more. Zero chemistry and both were repulsive in their own ways.
Tbh i was more excited about Hye Seoung's love life but i already endured longer than i should have (8 eps) and wont be watching any longer.
So if you're a realistic piece of s**t like me, i dont think you'll enjoy this.

It's an 8 for me.

Most actors did a great job but Kang Heon's wife irritated the hell out of me at some scenes where she tried to act like a badass person (ie. during the board meeting where she got up and walked out of the door and said "idiots" while walking) The way she "tried to" smirk was, idk why but, cringe to watch, looked extremely forceful. But I must say she did an extraordinary job at dramatic scenes like where she cried for her son. Got my eyes filled with tears.
Also Eun... omg she was one of the cringiest characters I've ever seen! It's one thing to try and look naive and kind but it's another thing to look like a person with a mental problem which, unfortunately, she did.

There are a lot of comments on the story and stuff but the reason why it's not a 9 or 10 for me because I hate it when directors do that thing where they start the show/movie with a "cause" and we all watch the whole thing based on that "cause" but at the end of the thing, they show us an altered and REAL version of the thing that happened and think they "made a twist". No, it's not a twist. It's fooling the people watching your show and it's a very dumb and easy way to "trick" the audience. It doesnt make you a smart and creative director, it makes you a lazy ass who couldn't think of a more creative way to surprise the audience.

For me, whether Ho Yeong killed Sang Hyeon accidentally or on purpose wouldnt matter. The mom would kill Ho Yeong either way and Song Pan Ho would try to keep it as a secret to protect his son no matter if his son did it accidentally or on purpose. The absurd thing for me is, why a criminal man like Kang Heon would even hesitate killing the guy who killed his son? Why would he try to negotitate with a judge? He has done and kept doing so many wrong things and got away with it, how come he makes a deal with a judge who he believed killed his son and later learned that it's the judge's son who killed his son?

So like I said, the director apparently didnt bother coming up with a more creative plotline so he based the story on "whether the accident was an actual accident or was it planned" which, imo, wouldnt make any difference. And he thought he made a twist showing us the version where Ho Yeong was innocent at the first episode and showed us he did it on purpose on the final episode. Idk maybe he thought he would expect us to go "ohh he did it on purpose, ok then he definitely deserved to die!"??? Very lazy.

Literally been dragging myself to watch since like ep 8-9. I'm on ep13 and i really dont have any will to keep going.
I think it's way too cringe for a historical drama. I know it's not a law that a historical drama should be serious but, as someone who doesn't like over-reactions, over-gesturing (not sure if these are literal terms but i think people get what i mean), it looked weird and funny on most characters, especially on older ones.
The gender-crossing thing was also bearable to some point but it got weirder and absurd.

Just finished the 1st ep (actually couldn't even finish it) and I'm amazed how bad it started! I read the comments and people saying it's similar to SitR (which is one of my all time faves) made me want to watch it but this drama looks like... idk how to put it but... a colder, more boring, more shallow version of SitR?

First of all, I think it was a mistake of the director to use the same actors/actresses from his previous, extremely similar type of drama. Yes ML can be the same but seeing some other characters from SitR, even though they aren't main ones, somehow felt weird and uncomfortable.

The FL was a horrible choice! I'm sorry to her fans, I don't mean to disrespect but she is one of the most repellent characters I've ever seen. She looks so forced and unnatural. Same goes for the love story. I feel like it's so rushed, unrealistic and badly written. It's like they saw the hype for SitR and wanted to hit the jackpot for making sth similar to that.

I see people saying this drama is a more upgraded version of SitR because it has more mature characters but I for one hardly find 1-2 sane, mature people around myself in real world so in dramas, I don't expect to see characters dealing with life the best way possible, I expect them to deal with it how normal people deal with it; badly! The characters in SitR were, even though some viewers cannot relate to them due to their cultures being way too different, extremely relatable for me, that's one of the reasons why I loved SitR so much.

And for God's sake, someone please tell them to stop playing so many American songs in the background! It really doesn't give your art any kind of depth or intellectualness whatsoever, it just causes our ears bleed!

I'll (try to) keep watching this, solely because I love this type of drama but I hope that it proves me wrong about the things I wrote and I get to have another drama that I keep coming to whenever I look for a safe place to be, just like I do with SitR and MLN.

Title A Shop for Killers Spoiler
I mean I get the hype about this drama. Cool effects, great acting, no cheesy romance etc. but a masterpiece? No.
Honestly for me, it would've made a lot more sense if the uncle was really dead. The things he did to his little niece just so "she could learn how to survive" was really absurd to begin with. I know it's just a show but there are things that, though unacceptable, at least make sense; and there are things that just make the character look like an a**hole instead of a "cool guardian" and the latter is probably what the producers was aiming for but failed imo (unless you're an LDW fan).
And it got no better when the niece grew up. He taught every single person that did wrong to her their lesson well but then a boy came, claiming to be his niece's very close friend, and our ML, who is an extremely cautious person as supposed to be, trusted him even with his computer. Later, he found out that the boy was some psychopath but instead of wiping his existence from the world, he set up a scene to make himself look dead and left his clueless niece figure every little thing out on herself i mean WHAT??? Come on now! You care about your niece so much that you inherit a huge but extremely illegal business to her (well... that's also pretty absurd), you dont tell her any freaking thing about it, and you literally present her to the mercy of your worst current enemies and also possible enemies (as you're doing an extremely dangerous business, literally everyone is a potential enemy) and you know damn well that they murdered your whole family!!?
Another type of cliche for me was the good person/bad person twist of characters. For example, why would MinHye try to fool the FL by talking and acting suspiciously instead of straight up telling her about what's going on and trying to gain her trust more easily and quickly? The twists in other main characters like Pasin, Brother and Jung Min were also very poorly handled and totally predictable.
And of course, making a looong speech instead of killing your enemy when you have them completely helpless, right under your hands waiting for one final gun/blade shot and as a result, causing them slip through your fingers is another repetitive cliche in this drama, just like in many others.
The flashbacks didn't bother me much until the last 2-3 episodes but the final episodes were too boring and draggy that I played them at x1.5 speed, sometimes x2. Though the production make it seem like this drama is a huge deal, the plotline is actually pretty simple; a couple of immoral soldiers make bad things and they often get scolded by their boss and because of that, they hold a grudge against him. That's it, that's literally what the whole thing is all about even though they tried to polish the story.
And I can't be the only one who thought of the way Bella stopping the Final War in Twilight Breaking Dawn while watching JiAhn making her speech to stop that huge group of punks ready to loot the place? Both ladies literally prevented a possible barbaric fight with some "convincing" talking to huge group of people who are thirsty for blood? lol... seriously?
Overall, I gave it an 8 because of the effects, the almost non-stop action and of course acting; I'm not saying it's a waste of time to watch, though I wouldn't watch it again; but it definitely lacked in many areas and not as spectacular as claimed here.
Of course everyone has their own taste and I'm not here to judge. But I must say that I'm not excited for a s2.

I thought it was obvious from ep 1 that the ML was not the killer. You know they don't have the balls to write…

Usually I enjoy this type of dramas and after reading the comments, I decided to watch it and had high hopes. But I've literally been dragging myself into watching and I'm only at ep4! Can someone please tell me what this drama is about? I mean... Are we watching this to find out if the ML is the serial killer, or if not, who the serial killer is, or is there something else that I missed? Because I cant see myself watching 16 long episodes for something as basic as "who is the serial killer?", which probably ML isn't, even though they will try to make us believe he is by giving him this dark look, antisocial characteristic and some ghost seeing in his early years just to "surprise" us in the final. Btw I wouldn't care if he really is the serial killer because it's the way they deliver the story and so far it's super boring.
I dont mean to disrespect the work they've done but guys I live in Turkiye and we have this reality show on TV where they solve this kind of cases and just this morning, a woman confessed to killing her husband with her bf live on tv and the crew of the show, who was in the area that they live to investigate the case, went out there to search for the body and actually found it based on the directions that the woman gave them! So this drama is waay below the level of thrill that I'm used to xD
