Worth watching

I admit that I have not made it to the end of many historical or Wuxia dramas in the past year. Dragging, poor story or editing, mediocre acting, people not being able to fix the same problem after trying the same thing over and over. But this one was engaging, fun, exciting, mysterious, and the actors were a blast to watch interact. The cases were intriguing. The family case and the town case were really well done. I want to live in a lotus tower house. It did not drag. It did not frustrate. The sets were very well done. I thought only the violence of the saintress, towards the end, was overdone. The whole drama was like pulling on that one thread to find nothing is sewn together by the same threads you thought. I loved it.

Cute easy to watch drama

This is a cute drama with two of my favorites in the lead roles. Song Yiren playing a dual role is an eye opener. Sweet to siren and back and I’m in favor of both. ML, Leon Zhang plays awkward as well as he plays serious doctor or police officer. The plot is one we have seen before, but all of the characters are good and not taking the drama too seriously. The music is good and interesting when played with the story line. The romance moves along with the normal hitches here and there, but one can see where it will end up. Zhang was in another modern romance I recently watched, and while it was very good, it did not have the easy watching vibe this one does. If you need to watch something to feel good, without taxing the brain, this is one to watch or rewatch.

Almost but never quite

Let me start by saying, Gong Jun is very pretty. But as another commentor put it, his acting is vacous and uninspiring. He found moments in 'Unique Lady' and Zheng Ze Han provided him a place to do very well in 'Word of Honor', but he needs to be a second lead at best. Han Ye with Wen Shuo were his best moments, more relaxed and normal than any other time. Dilraba is a master at all levels of acting. Liu Lu Ning is also extremely talented. Some of the characters that surprised me were Linlang and Leng Bei. The actress playing Linlang should be playing more prominent roles. The scenery often looked too fake. The story was very good and very bad. Why wasn't HanYe in more despair over lising his sight? Why and how did Mo Shuang find him? Where were other soldiers when the Princess was fighting? The music was excellent. The CGI...was that actually CGI? Was the emperor that paranoid in the book? Editing was ok, not great. Did the director even watch the series? A lot of problems should have been fixed if he did. I am not disappointed, but I am.

This could have been better

There were parts of this that I really enjoyed. Then there were other parts that were so inane. It was a mixed up mess in places, particularly at the end.

Good: FL did not seem to fit the character, but grew on my. 2nd FL and both ML were really good as well as the other two couples.
Little brother was perfectly annoying as he should have been.
Sets were good and disaster sequence was also well done.
Chen was a great character and the actor was really on point with the reactions and emotions.
The little girl and her guardians were a delight. Auntie bickering in that voice. She is one of my favorite character actors.
Xiaojia character and sequences were very well done. Took me a couple of episodes to figure him out.

Bad: ongoing hallucination device became overdone and just irritating.
The music became irritating in the last half. It wasn't bad music, but using theme songs as plot devices is poor directing.
On and off and on and off. Romances were too melodramatic too often. The third couple were more straightforward until late and that was a new irritation the director/writer did not need.
The ending was an unfair, convoluted, without reason mess.

My main complaint is the story used mental health and the difficulties dealing with and the PTSD, though not named, was treated fairly well. It is a journey to overcome PTSD. One journey I've taken myself. Then in the last two episodes a sudden event? It cheapened the whole story line. And for no reason. I realize this is a book adaptation, but disappointing isnt a strong enough word. And the final scene, is it real or is it not? That was unfair to audiences. The last two episodes were just tacky and we got to see the bratty brother in trouble but not the baby?

Better than expected

Good story and characters. I am loving everything CZY does. The villains are a riot and still dangerous. The story generally moves along well. The CGI isn’t bad. The sets are really well done in most cases. The elephant in the room is Ju Jingyi . After seeing her with Zhang Zhehan, I felt she kept up and could get better. It has not happened. Can directors just get someone else to do these parts. Fair Xing and Luang Jie are both far better choices. Otherwise, this was a really good.

High energy, Fun, good time.

Huang Bo is exceptional. What a dancer! The movie has all the elements for a great dance movie. Dancing, miscommunication, team work, outstanding performances, a familiar storyline all make this a fun exciting ride. It is not long enough to truly detail the practice and hits and misses a dancer has to be willing to dedicate to performing, but one can get that sense. Casper is excellent. But Wang Yibo is vibrant, compelling, and a must watch if you love dancing. His skills are on display in shows, on stage, and on Street Dance China. He is an impeccable talent in acting and dancing. I will watch it again when I need an energy boost. Or just need a Yibo fix.

Non-Serious Fun

Light hearted, fun the story isn’t deep or complicated. It is engaging and fun. I loved the character dualities. And Dylan Kuo is the best. I don’t see enough of him in dramas and film. The roles in game and out are fun to watch, seeing actors maintain the same characters in completely different forms. The game virtual world is fun, creative and very pretty. This is one drama where the drama isn’t and the relationship proceeds with little tedium. I recommend for days you just need to be or need to laugh.
