I learned about a certain financial situation that gets revealed at the end of the book and if they include it in the show - and I'm 99.99% sure they will - then this is officially a worse toxic mess than Tharntype.😂 I mean to be a victim of all that abusive manipulation and to finally learn that you and your whole family is completely beholden to the abuser. I don't know how the situation gets revealed but Kuea being blind to this just highlights the fact that nobody treats him as an adult and perhaps he has no business marrying anybody at this point in his life. This makes me kinda sick because people were cooing as to how sweet it was of Lian to have done what he did - again without informing Kuea.

This is why this show bothers me so much more than Tharntype. The fact that the toxicity is so well wrapped up in the cutesy little veneer of fluffiness that many people don't even recognize it as something harmful. I'm sure not many people watching Type's homophobia were cooing oh that's sooo cute and not many were thinking Tharn's rapey behavior was the epitome of sweetness. Cutie also bothers me more because of the imbalance of power between the main leads. It just lends more power to the abuser victim dynamic. In TT, although the main leads are vile to each other they are pretty much on an equal footing and one doesn't have this massive power to turn the other's life upside down.

If only the real Kuea turned out be a spitfire of dominance who put Lian in his proper place and walked away. Why couldn't they go with that story? Why the need to stay faithful to a crappy source material? They got rid of the only suspenseful plot point in the source material - Lian not knowing about Kuea's real life part - and kept all the useless abuse.

The comment section gives me Utsukushii Kare flashbacks.... means some people are simply too vanilla for this…
What kink? If you think psychological manipulation and unwarranted controlling of another person's life is kink I'm very worried about you.

Bro, we get it, we just don't agree that it's good storytelling. Just because we think it's shit doesn't mean…
Yup, seriously. The plot of this show and og novel is not that deep. It's too shallow and that's the problem. You just don't understand how privileged people from other cultures live has got to be the dumbest argument defending this show. It's the author of the og story that's very naive and has little understanding of how the world works because in a conservative elite society where keeping the wealth and power in the bloodline is important actually same-sex marriage would be the scandal to end all scandal, not some bike riding or earning money in the ent. industry or even some criminal activities. And yet this issue is never addressed in the show and not enough explanation is given. People are worried about Kuea's life for the most insignificant, trivial reasons and gay-marriage is ok? Had huge issue with the show from the beginning because of this total lack of verisimilitude. This is what a failed adaptation looks like.

Popularity of something does not equate to quality of something and when something is poor in quality people are going to complain. 50 Shades of Grey for case in point. It's a dumpster fire of toxic wasteland and yet it was a global sensation. It was popular and undeniably poor in quality so there are heaps and tons of criticism everywhere. Not that difficult to understand.

As for Cutie, it was on many people's most anticipated BL of 2022 list including myself and has been a big let down so far. A lot of people had high hopes for this show so some disappointment is only normal because tbh the quality of the show at this point is Wattpad level bad. I feel like they spent all the money that should have gone to the writers on set and production.
