Mantuo

I really enjoyed this show—enough suspense and drama. I even loved the villain nd felt compassion when he met the child. But, I absolutely could have done without the second sister. She was most annoying and I fast forwarded whenever her face was on-screen. I saw Jeremy Tsai in another drama and enjoyed his performance. This role was very different but he did a great job as the bad guy.

This is short, but this show was well worth watching. Love, hate, greed, stupidity, and loyalty all wrapped into one show.

Storyline was OK

I don’t have much to say except I didn’t read the novel. My biggest problem was with the female led actress being 35 years old when the character is a teenager. Are there no younger actresses that could play this role? She did a good enough job acting, but I just can’t get past the age differential.

I don’t know about the book, but I wonder how a slave girl became such a martial arts genius (in her mind). She also is very arrogant even when she loses every fight with the male lead. She says she loves him, yet is nasty to him when he continually saves her.

The movement of the story was good and most times kept my interest. I guess my only thing is I couldn’t relate to the main character.

Bella

I agree with this being a great comedy. I loved all of the characters and thought casting was good. I only had a couple or problems—one, not enough affection between main characters. He had several opportunities to kiss the queen and although he kept saying he wanted her to know how he felt, he didn’t take advantage of those times. Second, I was totally lost in ep. 23 when he was injured and the queen dressed his wounds seeing his scarred back. How did he get hurt. There was nothing to explain how he ended up in bed with everyone worrying about him—no fight, no ambush, just nothing.

I really liked her interaction with her childhood friend and her parent’s relationship. I didn’t understand why she and her mother were in that little village away from her dad for her whole life. But, when her mother came to her dad’s house, her parents act/say they are married, then her mother runs away to the palace because her dad wants to get married. Confusing.

Other than those two main issues, I really enjoyed this show. I liked the emperor’s friends and how much they cared about him and I really loved the way his family all got along and his younger brother was so inventive and supported him wholeheartedly. Having the queen’s sister be a writer of romance novels was fun too. The girl can’t win over the emperor but has all these great love scenes in her stories.

Although it was a fantasy, I enjoyed the uncle’s PA system—it just added to the farcical theme of the show. I would like to see a sequel to this to see what other kinds of trouble this group can get into. It’s a fun time in my opinion.
