tbh I don't mind him not working on big IP because sometimes those are double edged swords (look at all the backlash Empress Reborn is getting from book fans) but I really wish he could work with better directors. Movies/shows are a director's medium. A good director can elevate an average script.
as for the new director for CT, I actually don't mind him. Yes, he is behind the hilariously bad Only For Love but tbh he also directed A Dream within a Dream and One and Only which were both great. imo Only For Love was the fault of the production team too. Guo Hu is still a lot better than Yi Jun. Yi Jun does not have a single hit drama under his belt lol I always thought it was weird he was being handed a S+ drama without even seeing Overdo's result.
But it's sad that Guo Hu is like considered a good director for Linghe lol because we're so used to Linghe working with rookie directors.

honestly this is a problem across cdramas. I think DFQC in Love Between Fairy and Devil is one of the few really fleshed out MLs in recent times. Most of the time, MLs are just kind of an afterthought and there to support FL. And then you point it out, people say you don't support women lol that is not the case. A GOOD drama would have fleshed out male AND female leads.
the more I read about CT the more it seems like StarTimes has invested money in this. Because this drama already locked Linghe in a contract wayyy back at the beginning of the year when we all know it won't start filming until September. That's just a weird move. Because everyone knows Linghe had two important dramas coming out this year so his choice of roles would improve after they aired. It means there is a large volume of people who are manually searching the drama's name on the two sites. Usually the top 10 of this list is comprised of currently airing or recently aired dramas. This drama doesn't even have an airing date yet!

Linghe gained public attention in 2022 after playing ChangHeng in LBFAD but his fanbase at that time was still very small (duh that character was just a small supporting role) and he was cast in SOKP and MJTY off the back of that role. Bai Lu and Esther Yu were both popular actresses with much bigger fanbases so it makes me laugh that international fans think Linghe's fans can bully those two. If anything, it was the complete opposite, Linghe used to get harassed by these actress' fanbase but no one ever brought that to twitter or whatever to victimize him.
His fandom gradually grew after SOKP aired but I think TBT and POJ were turning points in his career. his fanbase grew the most in the past year. honestly, before 2025, there's no way zlh's fanbase could bully anyone lol
