Firstly this story is about a girl who was sealed off in a mountain for eight years who was allowed to simply come down because of the marriage pronouncement. She is someone who is calm quiet and calculative hence she works in the shadows meanwhile mo Jing li who's perhaps the the rightful heir to the throne but was defeated and connered which simply means his anger and pain is justified and again mo xiu yao who is undoubtedly a victim in the power struggle is also out for revenge these are three people who were wronged and goes about their revenge in a different format. Empress dowager is undoubtedly the enemy of these persons. Initially mo Jing li was working in the shadows and desperately trying to regain his rights and complete his revenge, mo Jing li revenge was all about sowing discord in the two nations thereby starting a coup and a deadly war and what was his plan, killing an innocent princess just to get what he wants and dragging many more innocent people to it. But our female lead moves with precision and purpose knowing fully aware that you can only uproot evil when you use the main culprit who is in power to eliminate those who support her her method is straight and forward wanting to cleanse the root by not cutting the branches. Lurking in the shadows and eliminating those who needs to be eliminated. If marquis muyang crumbles so is the foundation of the empress dowager. Mo xiu yao also another victim is doing what should be done gaining respect and power in order to forge ahead so far this story has been consistent in telling us just how we humans perceive the word revenge and we go around playing the victim card and again a story isn't a story when it's centered around just the main leads.
and for the chemistry, not every love story needs tension or steamy kissing scenes, that is why kdramas like when life gives you targarines, my dearest and among others will forever hold a special place in my heart that is because when you watch the above dramas l just mentioned you will notice how love is not loud or aggressive or dark but love that heals you in the most natural way. That l find more beautiful and reassuring
This is a very sensitive topic for me, which is loneliness. I will best explain the character of yeli, to the best of my knowledge she was a girl born in an environment where she received the most care from her maternal side ( which means her mom is from lishan academy) growing up with so much love from people early on who surrounded her with care, concern and love made yeli not to actually feel the emptiness from her dad's family not until her mom died in a very unjust manner and losing the people who grew and cared for her brought an instant shock to her that was when she realized she still had a dad but unfortunately they were nothing. They abondoned her and left her all alone in a mountain where she had to cope with her own demons. Yeli was extremely lonely and felt betrayed. Even if this drama should fall flat later on l will forever be grateful for meeting such a resilient and kind character. Hats off to the female lead who played it
