After they return they are suddenly taken back to the past and this time the villagers act differently (I think that they are pretending not to know who they are) and don't chase them. Something has changed. New Years come and the reunited villagers are standing outside waiting. Mr. Mo, the kind old man tells his grandson that they are waiting to scare the New Year Beast away. (That aligns with the traditional custom of driving evil spirits awa) But he tells that the people in their village knows that the Beast is good. It is hard to determine but apparently it was Abao who put on the red feathered costume and by dancing put on the aerial display. To the great joy of the villagers. Later she leaves the village to find her clan members and teaches them how to be New Year Beasts for the other villages. They are rewarded by becoming divine beasts and Xiao Bao and Ji Du return to the village where she is recognized with joy. This is a very sweet and moving drama. Once you know what it is about.

Xiao Bao is a Nian Clan Demon and Ji Du is a Demon Hunter. By the time we are introduced to them, they have formed a bond. They stop at a village to hear the storyteller tell the Butterfly Lovers. It is not stated what she has done. When she was starving, she came down the mountain and collapsed due to hunger in front of a hut. The old couple took her in even though they realized that she was a 'monster.' As she became friendly with and helped the villagers, she noticed they lacked something to be happy. The land was so poor that all of the young people with their children had to move far away to find jobs. (I believe that this is a comment on the migration of the young to leave the villages and seek a life in the city.) After the wolf killed all of the livestock and the soldiers came, the villager asked her to move away to save herself. But she stayed nearby and witnessed a son coming back to see if his parents were all right. She realized that the families were separated. So she gathered her power to put on a display at New Years so that the authorities would think that there was a disaster and allow the young to return home.

During the wedding wine cup scene, he says that there is no shadow in his wine cup. He means reflection. And then he says, "You're cheating me?" A better word in this case would be deceiving me.

1. Amnesia means they fall in love twice. There is a second couple and despite appearances, it is a happy end.
2. Kinda slow burn because of misunderstanding in the first few episodes. Faster when they meet in Sushui.

There is only one character who is a jerk until the end. Lots of nice people inhabit this world. Had the writers chose a HE I wouldn't mind seeing them in a season 2.

Both escaped their fates, I believe. She put the Death Feigning drug in the wine and both drank it. She probably started spitting blood soon after. Who handled both bodies is not made clear. Perhaps the maid.

Should have ended like Attack On! Princess (2023) Another depressing ending where the witches are all killed for having too much power. When the ML dies of old age, he meets the heroine. Still a punch in the gut before that.

The director of Please Remember Me did Governor's Secret Love (2024) too. Needs a better writer to make the drama flow more smoothly, imho.

I think that he acted as the ferryman. So he might cross multiple times. He waited half a day for the artist/writer to make up his mind.
Edit. I was wrong. The ferryman has a mole next to his left eye. Zisu didn't. The writer is a much older version of Zisu. I guess. His face is fatter.

I think that the memory loss may indicate that he is not the agent of the massacre or perhaps it was done against his wishes. The memory loss and the bixi are explained in ep. 16. A lot has happened and there are still 14 episodes to go. I'm content following where this leads me. From the beginning, despite his suspicious and guarded heart with the FL, he is a very good man.

Getting even brings you down to their level. Someone must choose to be the adult. Giving him a taste of his medicine like that ultimately decides that he couldn't be saved. The premises of this drama is that generally she will be dealing with the unrepentant. I would say let him live in her shoes, twice. Once fully conscious that he is her. Stay with him, plead with him, get an understanding of what living under him is like. Then wake up knowing you will go through it again. I see what you mean. But she visited him while he was in prison, alone of almost everyone else. I would visit someone who did that for me even if there were baggage attached. I'm a romantic that way. And like I thought, it would make an interesting bookend to this drama. Looks like Ha Seol might be his end game. By the way, Kim Bo Ra, who I liked as an actress is very beautiful here. She has a distinctive face, less distinctive beautied up here. Never seen her like that before. Interesting.

Just starting to watch this but have read the comments here and the synopsis for the novel. So just thought it would make an interesting footnote at the end.
