My understanding of Queerbaiting is that - If there is a lot of hinting, suggestions, homoerotic subtext, clever twists, slow burning tension, innuendos, poetry, bone-throwing that is going on that is suggestive of a same-sex romance, but there is absolutely no depiction of same-sex romance, not even a romantic confession or explicit acknowledgement of a same-sex romance and relationship between the men, then I have always felt that technically that classifies as Queerbaiting and not exactly BL. There has to be some explicit expression and acknowledgement of romance and not just innuendos and hinting and subtext.
May I ask a question purely out of curiosity? My understanding of "BL" is that it is a genre that depicts homoerotic relationships between male characters and that this genre was predominantly created by women and also for the consumption by women.
So, what exactly is it about two men getting it on that women find so attractive and appealing?
So I might be saying something controversial here, but that is okay, it is just my opinion and not meant to offend anyone. I actually don't consider the drama to be BL. I understand that the original novel is BL, but in my opinion the drama is not. The drama is actually the text-book definition of Queerbaiting to be honest where creators hint at, but then do not actually depict, same-sex romance or other LGBTQ representation. They do so to attract ("bait") a queer or straight ally audience with the suggestion of relationships or characters that appeal to them, while at the same time attempting to avoid alienating other consumers. So there is plenty of hinting, and innuendos going on (sleeve cutting, etc), suggestive poems, homoerotic subtext, clever twists, slow burning tension, bone-throwing, etc. that is going on, but absolutely zero depiction of any same sex romance. There isn't even a confession of romance. Don't get me wrong, I love this drama and I'm crazy about it, but I would not call it BL. The novel might be BL, but the drama is not. Again, just my opinion.
Is there actual BL content in here like at least any kissing or any romance? I'm not asking for nudity or sex, but just some real basic BL content like kissing, or is this just Queerbaiting with homoerotic subtext?
