I have to admit I don't exactly know what is the criteria on MDL for something to show up in the "Trending This Week" list. Is it user activity in terms of number of comments? Is it number of people who are watching? Is it jump in ratings? Something else? A combination of all of the above? I don't quite know to be honest.
