I can see why you would think that but Method wasn't about homosexuality at all. It showed how people can become…
I try to answer as best as possible since its been some time since I watched the movie (so sorry if I've got something wrong). I think its always tricky to assume why a writer chose a specific topic, especially since in this movie (which is very ambiguous) the viewers interpretation is always subjective. Sure, its entirely possible the writer did choose homosexuality because it is shocking in Korea to be gay, even more if you deceive yourself like in method acting. For example, the shocking part for me personally wasn't the relationship at all, but the attempted suicide by the Idol actor. He even went so far as to try to end his own life because of method acting. This was (for me) the most shocking result of method acting in the movie. I think the reason their homosexuality was perceived so badly by his wife and especially the manager and the media was because Idos don't date, especially no older same-sex partners. And this is Korea so its basically unthinkable. The younger character was some kind of sociopath that was obsessed with the older guy. That was the reason he was violent and dangerous. Not because of his sexuality. Who would think that the guy from YOU was dangerous and violent because of the fact that he was heterosexual? He was simply a sociopath just like the character in the play. I'm not saying you're wrong at all. Maybe your right. Maybe it won't matter what the intention of the writer was because people will perceive it the same way as you. My view is certainly influenced by the fact that I've grown up in a society in which people mostly don't care if you're gay. I'm just saying you can never be sure and its important to allow the writer to portray such a scenario because it is artistic freedom after all.
Also, if they tried to portray the kissing scene as disgusting and wrong then they failed completely. They had amazing chemistry.
This can't be the ending. It felt incomplete as if they stopped in the middle of the story. There better be a S2 (not a fan of of this new trend) but they can't just leave it at that. Even if you have more seasons planned, at least wrap it up in some way this is stupid. Its a shame because Vagabond was such a great show.
I'm very keen to watch this. I've watched many Thai and Taiwanese films and series which include gay and bisexual…
I can see why you would think that but Method wasn't about homosexuality at all. It showed how people can become completely different people and lose their own self if they are to immersed with their character. I don't want to spoil the movie but the younger guy did a really dangerous thing at the end because thats what his character would have done. And the older guy kept cheating on his wife with other actresses when he was method acting because his characters were in love with them. It wasn't the best movie I've ever seen but I think it was interesting from a psychological kind of view. Choosing sexuality to show how method influences people is tricky since it is a sensitive topic (especially in Korea) but I really don't think this movie is homophobic at all. I mean those kissing scenes? Never seen anything like it in a korean movie/drama.
I love a good angsty drama but My Country might be too much for me. I seriously think the writers are allergic to happiness. Like I don't know how the show is going to end but I know I'm going to cry. A lot. I just want my boys to be happy. Is that too much to ask for?
Was I shocked that Sunho stabbed poor Hwi in the gut? Yes. Do I blame him? No. Because I'm not a hypocrite and that boy probably did it too keep Hwi away from the battlefield. If he really wanted to kill him, he would have killed him. Duh. He did exactly what Hwi did to him, because he got in the way of his revenge. Those two are idiots.
I'm just glad Sunho had his life span extended for 4 more episodes. I was sooo anxious during this episode (actually since last episode). I can't believe it took 10 minutes until they confirmed that he would survive! I wanted to be angry at Hwi but then he sat there like a lost sad puppy and I just couldn't. I love that he realised that revenge won't make him happy and didn't kill Nam Jeon. Bang-won was such a gem for killing him. He was the true hero of the episode for me. But I get why Sunho is going to be angry now. He probably has the best goal out of the three of them. Yes he wanted to kill his father but more than that he wanted a country where people were treated equally. He is a little bit too ahead of his time. Also am I the only one who thinks those romance scenes with the doctor feel out of place? This is such a dark and serious show and those scenes seem weird to me. Idk.
I have mixed feelings about this episode. The death and mourning scenes were heartbreaking as expected. I'm still angry Yeon died even though I expected it and do understand why she had to die. This is an important turning point for both characters, which is why it completely caught me off guard that there was a six year time skip. I don't like character development off-screen and I hope we will get to know more about what happened during those years because I'm really confused. Anyway, I don't understand what Sunho and Sam Jeon are planning now. I don't know why they want to dethrone the king but that might be because I was tired while watching and I don't really know the history facts. I still cannot believe Sunho and Hwi not having a single scene together since Yeons death? I really expected one. I do like that they both turned out to be dark avenging angels but I still don't buy Sunho as the villain sorry. Maybe it's the time skip but imo he hasn't done anything worse than Hwi, they just have a different approach for destroying Nam Jeon. Also, I'm usually okay with mediocre idol acting but Hee Jaes actress was terrible this episode. I can't believe she stood there emotionless while Hwi was running to his death. One of the best scenes this episode was the butterfly lake scene. That was a beautiful scene!
I agree. Sunho is on the losing side and won't survive this. But I'm not sure Hwi is going to survive because…
I think Hwi and Sunho want the same things. Save Yeon and make Nam Jeon pay (Sunho for his mother, Hwi for his father). So it would make sense that they have a backup plan. I don't know why Sunho would kill Hwi to protect his father. That doesn't seem in character. I really hope Yeon is going to survive, because it would be the end of their friendship forever. They might not be friends now but they still care about the other. Yes you're right. He only said that so his father would keep Hwi alive but he says things like that all the time. It is heartbreaking how Sunho does try to keep Hwi alive by being cruel and mean to him (and others). He even pushed him away and told him his sister was dead so he wouldn't go to his father but that backfired. I think he means well but Hwi has gone through so much character development that he doesn't need Sunho's protection anymore. I want to believe he is going to run away with Yeon to keep her safe but Sunho is so closed off you just can't be sure what he really thinks.
I thought a lot about what is going on now and there is no way this ends well for my boy Nam Sun ho. Bang Won…
I agree. Sunho is on the losing side and won't survive this. But I'm not sure Hwi is going to survive because in the future scene he says to him that he's going to kill Nam Jeon and then kill himself? which means its a suicide mission. I really hope that was a translation mistake. Everything Sunho has done was to keep Hwi and Yeon safe. That is pretty obvious. But he's not a hero which is why he isn't willing to sacrifice himself if there is an alternative (like sending Hwi to war). The thing I also realised about him is that his words don't match his actions. For example he said to his father that he won't die for Hwi but on the next episode almost gets stabbed to death to save him. And he does that multiple times. I think it's pretty interesting that he almost got killed because of Hwis Betrayal and how that is going to change everything. Next episode we will see if he'll sacrifice Yeon or save her ( in the trailer it looked like he would). But I do really believe that those two are unable to kill the other. Maybe if Yeon dies.
