The ML falls in love at first sight because of a heroic act. He then pursues her for a month until he watches…
Yep I agree. Those were the main themes and the drama was supposed to be female centric. However, it’s hard to see it as female centric and empowering when 2/3 of the story is about how much trauma is being inflicted on the ML. I can understand it was all journey for the misunderstandings to eventually be cleared up but how all that amounted to feeling confident about your true self is beyond me. Surely we don’t need to psychologically torture anyone in order to be loved for who we are inside, right? I blame this on his acting as well ahahahaha dude does not know when to stop making the audience suffer 😄🥹
But, to be honest, I think this is only interesting precisely because of his pov and his trauma, otherwise we would have a Chinese version of Ugly Betty. Actually, the Colombians and the Mexicans did it better with Betty La Fea and La Fea Más Bella nearly 25 years ago, so nothing new other than this bracelet from hell.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I’ve been wondering why I can’t seem to finish this and it turned out that as a fan of the ML, I’m getting too invested in the nightmarish aspect of his story arc to be able to find this drama entertaining. For me, the message about overcoming prejudices and removing filters got lost in the excessive use of traumatic experiences. I even forgot what this show was supposed to be about in the first place.
The one thing I find odd about all this is how trauma is treated so lightly and played for laughs. Even by (specially by) the audience, who are able to justify everything just because she didn’t do it intentionally. Maybe I’m getting old and too soft but I don’t find it cute and not a little bit funny.
this was so stupid omg.Every scene is worth skiping. They should have made a version with only Xiang lius scenes.
To be completely honest, only Xiang Liu scenes matter. There is a compilation - as Kokuto have mentioned - but unfortunately Xiao Yao is there contaminating all his fine scenes.
Tbh LLD's relationship with ZXC is on and off and not like how those marketing accounts have been saying (aka…
Yeah me too, it is probably going to be the usual office/CEO drama, which is a genre I don’t like 😞.
I haven’t been watching much, work is keeping me busy but I sometimes rewatch some random episodes of Under the Skin and I’m looking forward to his next project. Hopefully it will be a more serious genre now that he’s been to film festivals and such 🤞🏻
