it was enjoyable and there are moments I’d rewatch. but the story overall was weak despite a strong start. they dragged the “what happened 17 yrs ago” plot for way too long and there wasn’t much they had to work with. what unfolded was underwheling. I dunno. it just felt shallow and uneventful. can’t deny the romantic scenes though. maybe if they had refocused some of that effort to the story then I may have enjoyed it more

let me know if you find one cos I haven’t been able to (and I’ve started to rewatch old faves!) the only new one that’s made me excited was vendetta of an but that’s a diff vibe and now I’m stuck :(

Yeah. I also skipped LWJ’s love line. I had fond memories of blood of youth but after rewatching it, it felt flat. it’s still good but just not as great as I had remembered it. or maybe I’m stuck in a cheng yi phase right now so nothing is as good as Li Lianhua and Xie Huaian sigh
I’m rewatching this after some time and I forgot how annoying Qian Luo is. the whole drama could’ve been without romance, however secondary or subtle it was meant to be. I’m fast forwarding all her parts sigh. hope they don’t continue the love lines in s2…
oops 12!Just realized you’re not at the end 🥶🥶All i’ll say is that it gets better, in that some wild…
I still haven’t finished lol but I made it to ep37. I’ve been sitting on it for days - just shows how uncaptivating it is if I can’t even binge watch the last four eps…
I take your point but I wasn’t comparing the story with MLC. My point was more about the team - it’s the same director, writer and production team! At the very least I was hoping for an engaging and quality piece of work. But it turned out to be this??!
Re the action scenes, it’s not just the wired scenes. I don’t expect the extras to be as pro as the main characters, but that should’ve been compensated by camera angles, speed and editing to make it look less obvious/bad. In saying that, the most epic ep so far was 27 - that fight scene was pretty good. And of course the fights with Yan.
That aside, there have also been some really cringe emotional acting scenes - even for Cheng Yi who generally nail these. The emotional scenes between the brothers were really cringe. Kaiyan’s monotonic voice tone also irked me.
The most interesting characters were Li Chen Zhou, Shirong, Sui Feng and Yan. I would’ve been happy if they made a story that just centred on them and some of the OG masters like the Buddhist and a Taoist masters. It’s supposedly S+ so they had budget! What a waste imo
Edit: what a struggle. finally finished. my overall impression didn’t change much. but Chenzhou, Shirong and Suifeng ended up being the most interesting of all characters. what a waste sigh /// I’m only 12 eps in and I’m speechless. I don’t get how the same director, writer and production team as MLC made this. The quality across all aspects is poor. Nothing gripping about the story, and none of the characters are captivating me, even XQS! The only redeeming factor is the action scenes but that’s only limited to Cheng Yi’s scenes which are more or less consistent. Action scenes involving all others are hit and miss. Some are good while others just look like they’re rehearsing choreo, it is kinda ridiculous those takes made the final cut. Argh!
rewatched after a long time and I think I liked it more this time. I don’t get the comments about it being draggy. i skipped some scenes, but there weren’t any full episodes/arcs to skip. each episode had enough moments that make you want to watch it
It took me over 10 attempts to get through the first 3 episodes. I managed to get to episode 9 but I really don’t…
I don’t think I can even give it a second attempt. dropped it and didn’t even finish ep 3. I dunno why but watching it made me feel annoyed. the script was awkward, almost like it was telling a story to a two year old. none of the characters were interesting
First of all am not a hater so here goes nothing...Pretty leads and that's about it, acting is bland it's frustrating.…
she was also clearly impaled so I don’t get how YT managed to get her in the car and how she didn’t suffer blood loss?! they didn’t even make an effort to use anything to stop the bleeding while she was taken to the clinic. oh and the princess hug made no sense. she had a broken arm yet she still wrapped herself around his neck. plus the lift would’ve applied pressure near her freshly stitched wounds??!! my brain is blown.

I couldn’t agree more about the action scenes - there’s like no excitement. The fight scene in ep 9 was a bit better though the stunt double was more obvious here. And don’t get me started by the tailgating scene - like how freaking obvious do you want to be in following someone. Then the cringe attempt at covering up at the rest stop even though she’s clearly tailing them?!
I had the same thought. I’m a Reba fan and yes she looks great here. But the make up/styling screams Reba rather…
So I get that parallel world is a different story and production and I wasn’t suggesting it to be like for like. Nor was I expecting flawless characters. If anything, the past few episodes have been propping NJL up in a way that’s contrary to your comment actually. Also NJL could still be styled beautifully without it having to scream Reba. Cos right now, I am seeing Reba. Not NJL.
I don’t get low budget vibes but I don’t feel like they have put the funds to good use. The writing and directing…
Script writing isn’t the same as novel writing. And just because it is true to novel doesn’t mean it’s a great production. At least for me, the viewer experience is really mid right now. Parts of the dialogue and acting including by supporting characters were cringe. I don’t think I commented on the pace or had this expectation of flawless characters either. Anywho~
Is it just me, or does this give off low-budget drama vibes? I just hope it’s a directorial choice.
I don’t get low budget vibes but I don’t feel like they have put the funds to good use. The writing and directing falls short for me. I cringed a lot more than expected and I was actually looking forward to this. I really hope it gets better cos right now it’s really mid.
