no body, no death? hahaha... you can just imagine his story continues the way it did in the novel (he becomes a "living ghost" and works his way back up from the bottom again)

that would've really derailed the plot LOL plus in the novel a yu actually does learn to be less co-dependent on her (that's why she can even step down as empress in the first place). that kind of obsessive a yu only exists in fics 😂

i love the cast and the chemistry of the leads but i felt like the story was more about the FL with the ministers…
i'm ngl even in the novel chu zhao's relationships with the other 3 were much more stronger/compelling. but idk it also might just be the screenwriter's fault trying to change xie yanlai's character design

^^^ eternal sky lantern explained it well haha i haven't watched the last ep either but i assume now that after she successfully stabilized the nation she stepped away from court since she no longer had to help a yu rule. so the oath doesn't really count anymore

ohmygod... (falls to my knees) EP22 is truly a five-course chufang meal... we got scenes of him putting on chu zhao's shoe for her, the family of three sharing dinner, then the jealousy at her favoring XYL, pretty much begging her to stay put!!! and!! he couldn't bear to kill her!!!!!! i'll forgive the screenwriter for adapting their relationship this way because they at least captured all the delicious parts of the dynamic
