awful (spoilers ahead)

this drama had a terrible beginning, an okay middle, and a terrible ending. it’s definitely like 6 or 7 episodes too long. it should’ve ended when the loan sharks went to prison and xiaofei died. i also gradually started getting annoyed at how high stakes the pastry thing was. like who cares? the acting was really bad all around and i hated the ML even to the end. he kept whining about how he didn’t want to hurt jia’en by telling her he was dying, but he hurt her even more in the long run when he kept going behind her back. the only characters i even remotely liked were napoleon, brownie, and ou feixiang. the plot was a mess and the pacing was a mess. why did ye zi just disappear after being reunited with brownie? why didn’t brownie and ou feixiang’s romance not have any screentime? i would much rather have watched them get together than ruofan and aili. what happened with napoleon and his girlfriend? the gangsters who beat up ruofan—why were they suddenly not a threat anymore? what happened with aili’s dad? why wasn’t aili more traumatized from xiaofei literally dying right in front of her? why would jia’en forgive aili so easily? why would aili forgive her dad so easily? why was jia’en’s dad never mentioned after their reunion? why didn’t jia’en and shaotian just get married right when they knew he was going to die? the bedroom scene—how could shaotian not know that jia’en just wanted to have sex? lol. just such a disaster all around, and i’m so glad it’s over. truly one of the most infuriating things i’ve ever seen.
