I mean, yeah. Not a fan of the masculinity comment because WTF is that supposed to mean? Like, this isn’t a…
The movement of lips could have something to do with the expectation of dubbing, even self-dubbing, in China.
But I would be careful about criticizing how people move their lips in different languages.
The fact that some westerners show their tongues while talking is considered gross in plenty of places, so different expectations of manners make a difference.
Aesthetic standards around sounds in different languages also play a part.
And there is an interplay between emphatic stress and tones which may prevent or make unnecessary larger movements of lips.
aren't you being too sensitive? it's about the whole industry not just that specific guy...
Yes, you are right. And certainly it is weird that make-up for lead actors in k and cdrama is so heavy. Women too. It wipes out some micro-expression skills, I am sure.
It mystifies me, after we had a TV/fiulm stage-make-up revolution in the US a few years back. Products were finally created or used which looked beautiful on different skin tones and shades. Surely there are more translucent foundations available in Asia as well. Why arent they used?
I have said this elsewhere but I have a weird feeling that IQiyi only gave Netflix a limited license to simulcast POJ in a few countries in order to prepare for a big expansion of their subscription service over seas. In other words they used Netflix as free advertising. Wait and see if they make some promotional price available in Europe all of a sudden.
"It further adds a new dimension to the deep integration of Eastern aesthetics with the European public's preferences." A late breakthrough in Euro-appreciation of the technical skill involved in C-and-kdrmas nowadays. Now lets see if the numbers pick up in Europe for asian dramas, to match Latin America's at least.
As viewers will we have the right to know if AI is used and for what? Similiar to warning labels or labels listing the abiding by safety rules? If this really goes pearshaped, how will we find authentic content?
Ep1-2 The incessant competition, the anxiety, the repressed anger and fear. I like the way Hye Jin finally lays down the law to her panicky and cruel husband, Gyeong Se.
If she hadnt helped him (GS), he would not have made it to a stable career and would have lost his mind much more spectacularly than DongMan has. I believe it.
Imagine Oh Jung Se getting his actor's teeth into that scenario. Scary.
why are stress nose bleeds so common in Asian media? Is this a thing? The only time we see this trope in Western…
It is more of a symbolic sign of distress? Something about blood showing your feelings? In cdrama people spit blood spontaneously, instead of quiet nosebleeds.
But I have no idea i,f in RL, Asian urban pollution is so bad that people actually do get more nosebleeds.
A good counterpoint to all of our current heroines -- there are many ways to be a hero. So how does a little rabbit-like woman, frequently silly, fainting often and always needing more blankets, save the world? Her sense of justice, her dad's influence, her true love's devotion and her own unquenchable bravery. The timid are sometimes braver than all of us, because they have to overcome fear the most. AND, she was a very good liar.
I get a little tired sometimes of the impetuous, unruly, sly, often needing to be saved bec of their own willfulness -heroines of this wave of female-centric shows. Too much of a good thing can be really annoying.
Praise to the writers of this show, who have done something original. I laughed, shrieked, sighed and cried. I loved this show. If you are reading this, HAVE A LIGHT HEART AND ENJOY THIS ROMANTIC FANTASY!
Ep34 spoiler -- The Crown Prince is so good-looking -- it seems artificial to make him the villain. Even though verbally ("someone more powerful") he was foreshadowed, still his acting had the opposite vibe -- true love for chi Lan.

I have a strong intuition that the limited release iqiyi gave to Netflix was designed to boost a push by Iqiyi to expand into overseas markets.
They used netflix for free advertising.
In chinese does Iqiyi even post real numbers for views etc? Inside mainland china only or for outside regions?
Are the 'reservations' ahead of time meaningful?
Can anybody out there with some expertise summarize where to find reliable numbers? BUT NOT 'BUZZ' NUMBERS!
If this really goes pearshaped, how will we find authentic content?
It is really a treat to get to see him work close-up in a drama for as long as we will.
He has only done a half a dozen or so dramas, but no need to look down on the man.
(It feels a little like he is slumming, being in a drama.)

DongMan dancing with his side dishes! Havent seen that before.
The beginning and ending songs already have me tearing up.

Then, of course, came a really good plot twist.
