He Yu has really improved his skills since this show. But even here he has that indefinable something. He actually seems to communicate with his female leads, even when the dialogue is as silly as this.
Eps 9-10 blood drops on the ground between the two brothers in black and white -- opposites but alike in their singlemindedness about love and possession. Great visual.
The way the FL gets away with so much is genuinely cringe, stealing from a prince, she outright killed one of…
I take this as the FL trying out for the Empress position. She will be a great one, I think. Only the one who dares to plan for being emperor can see this, ofcourse!
I can't seem to point my finger on it but SMTH about this drama feels soooo juvenile. It's not boring, which is…
I think its more like a kdrama -- definitely fantasy and not ashamed of it. The over-explanation (just in case I miss it the first or second time?) does make it feel like a drama for teens though. Anyway if I think of it as cartoony it is really quite fun. It is the season for anime anyways.
I am really enjoying this. Only at ep8, wondering what will happen next.
The Crown Prince lied to her about her rescue from lady Rongs and Prince Yu's dancer's assassin. If only to string us along? Or maybe he has a foolproof plan to make her completely besotted with him?
That ridiculous (no gloves, second rope, knots or clamps) mountainside climb didnt even bother me. I have transferred my kdrama nerves of steel to fantasy events embedded in real interactions! Basic cdrama fall off a cliff enhanced with snow and clouds, nice!
Ep1 decided to watch this show because: the sequence of soul takeover in the water reminded me of Alchemy of Souls the ambush in the bamboo forest was cool the four princes are all different enough but also handsome enough to be interesting the maidservants can be treacherous the crown prince is disabled, cunning but not too cold-hearted a nice variation on 'first love' is that he saves the half-drowned and re-souled commandery princess selflessly and disappears. then he watches and waits to see what happens
worried that once again the FL may not be up to the task of a complex love, but am hopeful about He Yu after seeing him in action. He looks like fun.
While that was the most painful divorce I have seen so far in cdrama, it did seem awfully easy to do and thus…
I found it interesting. The history of women is written in that sort of record, divorce papers, rental agreements, home ownership. A good plot for me uses that. But I would not throw out 'divorce' completely as a topic or as a plot device the way you seem to be suggesting. Even if it did have personal resonance. I am here for good theatre not for noisy catharsis.
Actually this is a good albeit terrifying article.
The fan clubs want to run the industry. Who are these people? Are they even people? Are they criminal blackmailers arming an ai army , and/or manipulating fan armies for cash behind the scenes? There is a problem but the fan clubs clout is not the solution.
The clout that these fan clubs have been allowed to have has been in fact a form of collaboration/exploitation/in some cases abusive manipulation of/with/by the agencies of individual actors and the actual promoters of each piece.
The CCP in fact is now making noises about bringing some measure of control into what is a completely crazy and scary situation. But governments and art do not mix well historically. There seems to be a special arm of the police to enforce any new regulations.
Cautiously, something should be done. Who is the regulatory authority? Is there one? But these questions are beyond the scope of our website.
Ep7 really very cute. Done in a low key naturalism -- two late teens watch a movie with unexpected semi-nudity. So adorable -- pretending each one is more sophisticated than the other and quietly squirming inside. Good script, the introduction of the disc of The Titanic is very natutral and the whole frame of begininng jealousy is very efficiently constructed.
Ep5 Very non-fluffy. Actually a bit of a weeper. These kids have it so rough. It is very touching really. I am starting to really like it. The storytelling rhythm is different to what I have been watching lately. A longer build up of misfortune -- not just to establish character, I think, more to establish the reality of a place and time..
Princess Lin turns on the old threaten-to-become-a-nun trick. Works a treat on Dad.
She does not. How bitter that would be IRL!
