A really appealing personality, after all! He couldn't help laughing at Fan ChangYu cutting the ministers down to size! He is Qi Shu's little brother after all, and his character resembles her fun and quirky personality.
ep34 FCY's procession through the streets of the capitol. What a contrast to that entrance of the god-of-war when the Marquis returned to his own camp. Scowling and slouching. Who says we didnt see enough or the original Marquis in the beginning? It was there but we just didnt see it. And as Jinbao says, so what if the female general and her merry band are from the sticks? Everybody loves a parade.
ep34 open Comedy, with such high stakes? The Emperor tries to take off the dragon robe? It is all a play? More theatrical allusions by the writer(s)/director?
And then, no matter how silly he seems, the Emperor's judgements were sound.
We had war from the viewpoint of the infantry, no glory there except for individual duels. Martial music mostly missing. What is this? palace politics on an intimate stage? Where is the POV for the silly/dangerous fight of the ministers?

I think that you do not understand the gravity of Li's actions seen and unseen by us, and the Marquis does. Li has committed treason in civil terms and in military terms he might try to wiggle out of it but the Marquis is saying no to that.

No I havent read the novel --@ Bianbian just posted a couple of really good novel summaries of that somewhere here. I think we are at the point where thats not a spoiler but just useful info. But i wont spoil the overall plot of the show, and it remains to be seen if its exactly the same as the novel.

The soldiers call her 'General' which I am beginning to think is more like the common meaning of "captain" in english. She is a Captain (whatever that terms actually means in mandarin and in the army of the northern Song period, i.e. 10th/11thC )in the Cavalry, which is the Marquis' particular command area, but also she is now deputy commander under Li Huai'An of the whole Jizhou army.
The emotions are mixed… I liked the drama quite a lot, but I felt like I didn’t see enough of Murcuis’ power;…
I feel the opposite, that having gone through what in retrospect was an amazing transition from tsundere to gaining a soul, we now get to enjoy ORIGINAL MARQUIS but with added depth. Swishing around in black and giving Li Huari'an heck. What more do you want.
ep33 so the fight between the youngest grandson of Tutor Li (are there more?) and Wei Xuan means we are back in the capital next ep. And the gossip machine there is rewashing the dirty laundry of 17 years ago.
Even Wei Yan had a tragic backstory in the novel...will it be part of the drama too...Wei Yan so far has been a relatively simple bad guy. Except for the fact that Wei Sheng, his aide, is way too cool to be a real bad guy's henchman.

I am not going to mark this as spoiler, its general enough... Gongsun Yin and Qi Shu the Grand Princess: Those two are old style costume drama lovers. Restrained, speaking with their eyes..the whole lovely kit. They provide a nice humorous, adorably semi-sweet mirror to the main couple who are, obviously, both outsiders in the power structure and, much more unrestrained in their lovemaking.
