The irony of showcasing the dangers of parasocial relationships is that the very people who are experiencing it will rationalize it away even if its being depicted right in front of them.
Then there's the double irony of talking about it on a website that is tacitly fueled by the parasocial relationships the fans have with their Asian celebrities.
(Then then there's the triple irony of me talking about this knowing that I have formed a parasocial relationship with Fourth lmao)
At the start, Jun was just his usual chaotic self, stirring shit up but knowing what's the real deal. Un/fortunately he developed feelings. Clearly though, he backed out for his friend once he heard it directly from Thame. He never stood a chance, that's why I think people are rooting for him, because he's the underdog in this situation, and everyone's had an unrequited love buried deep in their closets.
Maybe I need to marinate in this story more. After all, I *did* wish that Earth would break away from being typecast in stoic roles. I just don't think I can get past the sexual harassment when it's so integral to the show's premise.
What I like about this series is that not only is the romance a slow burn, but the motivations and identities of the antagonists are a slow burn too. What's Jun's real agenda? What does Pemika really want? We don't know! And that's refreshing to me. The fact that Pemika has believable intentions and isn't just a typical one-dimensional evil CEO, and the fact that we don't really know if Jun wants to end up with Thame or Po (OR BOTH), yeah, this is great television.
Full disclosure: I only gave this series the time of day because I think Est is hot. (Breaking news: fork found in kitchen! More at 9) It's a great beginning, I'll give it at least three episodes.
Oh, I fear we have all been bamboozled. The "bromance" tag is actually for Chatjen's relationships; Saint and Shin were just doing all the regular gay shi* lol
BL enjoyers: hendecaphobia (fear of the number 11)
