EPS 2: Yoko Maki's appearance changed so much. Turns out she gave birth last year (2025)! This production is decent. Who else is gonna do J-horror justice but themselves:D

EPS 4~5 are peak, when everything clicks into gear. The camera work suddenly makes sense why it frames the cast a certain way.

Sul Kyung-gu eats this genre for breakfast. Ryu JY was memorable as the idealistic young man in Taxi Driver movie (his breakout?) I'm excited to start this.

Character studies are more likely in indie movies. TV dramas tend to take a collectivist view, unless it's about romance.

Chalamet is signed up to play Lupin the 3rd from WBD. We'll see which adaptation worked or not, and how~

When I bought this on VCD years ago (have since sold it), Yuya Yagira was still calling Manabu Oshio his role model. Time flies!

If the drama is a "nudge" as you put it, it's probably making baby steps in making a distinction between gender and sex. Or is Miki pre-operation, that might affect physical relationships?

Switching the focus to Keisuke in S2 is a mistake. The actor, usually a delight with his sexy and menacing presence in support, simply cannot carry a story's weight like Yagira did in S1. His character is even supposed to have a bigger dilemma than Yagira's, having been born into generational abuse! Not prime time ready:(

Plot sounds like Taste of Cherry

Reincarnation must be a bigger concept in India. This is more like a second chance at life (an assumed identity like Count of Monte Cristo.) Over-plotted, under-developed. The writer is all about these high-concept plots.

It's more like those "earthy" people (conflicts around sex) living in postwar poverty from 60s movies, but believe they're on their way to petty bourgeois life (shomingeki) because they work in "arts & culture".

It looks like a spaghetti western approach to a samurai thug!

NHK is government-funded. AI can be forced through policy even if it's unpopular, so this could serve as "we know you're worried..." type of run-around by the frontdesk.

After EPS 1, it seems like a variation of The Count of Monte Cristo. Very fun though.

This is why "BL" is the complete opposite of real life. It's a fantasy of idealized, sanitized everything. IRL the toxic behavior and relationships are common, whether they use the excuse of "we live in a society" or not. Shun is a doormat by conventional understanding, but he could be accepting the poor treatment bc of lack of options, or that "first love" exception.

Junji Ito is influenced by Lovercraft, who is known to be incredibly hard to adapt. Basically slice of life mixed with a surreal world. Hard to pull this off on TV budget.

A confrontation in the second half is the only time I've seen an actress come close to upstaging Yuko Tanaka. This actress, IMHO, also played the sorrow of all mothers in Light of My Lion!

In "Before we vanish / Strolling invaders" (2017), Hasegawa really fits the scheming reporter that becomes not quite human later;D

At the end, there's a joke about her having done something "private" with Ayano's character and they'll "play again"? He was Mana Ashida's abuser in Mother (2010)!
