I gave it an 8. it's a perfect historical romance comedy.
not too funny, not too serious. good storyline.. I think it needed one more episode. the last episode was a bit rushed but it was still really good. it had a perfect ending for the story

The chemistry between the leads was very cute. I appreciated the minimal household fighting.

the show is very balanced which is always great so we don't get frustrated. The villains weren't taking over the show.

I'd definitely recommend watching this when you need a break from the trauma (lol) of Asian Dramas and need something lighthearted with a bit of action.

The Hook - If you enjoy watching a talented cast be sacrificed on the altar of a nonsensical script, then Love & Crown is for you. For everyone else: Run. This isn't a drama; it’s a 35-episode "What THEE WHAT?" (WTW) marathon that should have been titled Delusion & Death.

Narrative Malpractice & The "Adopted" Amnesia
Let’s talk about the sheer lack of continuity. The writers clearly lost their own notes AFTER Episode 6. We start with Princess Ying as an adopted daughter whose mother died, confirmed by a servant at the 19-minute mark. Fast forward, and suddenly she’s a biological daughter? The script spends an exhausting amount of time telling the Emperor she isn't his blood sister, while conveniently forgetting that the 2nd Prince isn't her blood brother either. Or is she? Depends on which version of her identity you believe. It wasn’t a plot 🕳 hole; it was a plot abyss.

The "Security" & The Roaming Emperor I have seen better security at a Chuck E. Cheese than in this Imperial Palace. People wandered in and out like it was a public park. Our "Smart and Strategic" Emperor spent his time roaming public lands like a tourist while his people were being murdered and maimed. His repeated "grand strategy" was to watch society burn and then show up to put out the embers. That’s not a ruler - that’s a bystander with a title. Usually Emperors are Grandstanders - this fool was a complete BYSTANDER until it all hit the fan.

Character Assassination - this was very disappointing for me. Because I actually like the Preceptor at first.

The Preceptor: The ultimate WTW. She went from a brilliant, loyal FRIEND & OFFICIAL to a humanity-deficient nemesis no reason at all. She was "the help" who turned into a horror movie villain, holding the entire palace hostage while everyone shook in their boots. And her reward for this nonsensical villainy? A peaceful, natural death. The audacity. - My girl went from Preceptor to Preseptal - in my eyes lol 😂 (pun intended - you'll have to google it)

The Empress: A perpetual nuisance. She wasn't a hero, she wasn't a villain; she was just in the way. The emperor did not have enough lives to give her.

The Imperial Father-in-Law: The king of "False Sorrow." This man tried to kill his own adopted son, then had the nerve to let his eyes rain when someone else actually did it. The lack of genuine guilt in this series was sociopathic. No one was safe from this beast. He was willing to TEST sacrifice his own daughter.

Pacing: The "Spazz-Out" Effect This show didn't have pacing issues; it just had a freaking nervous breakdown. It wasn't slow, and it wasn't fast—it was just spazzing the freak out. One minute we’re dealing with Ghost Kings, the next we’re throwing in Pharmakeia like we’re in a different genre entirely, and then the Emperor became the Ghost King - 😂. My face was stuck in a permanent "HUH?" for thirty-five episodes.

Final Verdict I watched 35 episodes waiting for a climax that would appease my Main Character Energy. It never came. Instead, they just killed everyone. When a writer doesn’t know how to end a story, they just reach for the scythe. The structure was terrible so many things that were revealed in the last 10 episodes would have probably been better seeping through earlier eps. This ended like it had 12 more episodes to go but they threw it all in the last 10.

I didn't just lose my time; I lost my patience. This drama is a beautiful plate with absolutely no food on it. 0/10 recommendation.

I was expecting more

I wanted to give it a 7.8 but couldn't so I gave it 7.5


I feel they dropped the ball on the spooky part after they became a couple.

I think that should have been a consistent part.

Min Hwan was doing too much and I wasn't sold on his reasoning.

it's sad they killed the most handsome character in the beginning

and maybe I missed it but I wasn't quite clear on the necklace.

Why did he need it?
we couldn't tell if it would have stopped her from seeing ghosts because she stopped after becoming a couple.

but I loved the ending. for me it was the most notable.

taking Min Hwan down with the heart of his brother was everything for me. and him thinking he got away then everything being revealed to the hole network.

if he ever gets out he will have to emigrate for peace.

the Aunt.

BAY BAY she wins the role for best faint EVER.

😂 WHOEVER WROTE THAT FAINT SCENE - KUDOS.

if anyone has ever fainted that's how it happens a little nauseous or blurry vision because your faculties are gone and to the floor it is.

Wonderfully Witty

Wit + Want = If there is a will there is a way!

All Done - I definitely felt like I went on this journey with them. This was great story-telling.

I really enjoyed this because our FL was not portrayed as overpowering and overly smart. She was cute, quiet, considerate, and most importantly strategic. She was fighting(mentally) against a bull with brains and she did not back down and that bull allowed her to fight. Leaving room for something more powerful (😍) to be explored.

Our 2 main leads journeyed this out well. Family, Feud, Politics - are what kept them a part then eventually brought them together.

FL - Her most beautiful aspect was her character, - wise, humble, she knew when to speak, when to stay silent, she viewed the whole picture before making judgments. She was truly a graceful presence in this series.

ML - Loyal, honorable, dedicated, stubborn with reason at the same time - open minded and willing to change. The actor for ML - did an amazing job. He delivered the very different aspects of this character very well.

Side characters - were not overplayed, they contributed greatly to the story
This series gave us a few new things to see - the creativity was great. From sudden deaths and alluring intimacy - they delivered.

I loved this. I definitely recommend it.
Those who read the novel may feel different - but as a drama just being a drama - I thoroughly enjoyed almost everything about it.

A Road to Something

Asian drama titles hardly match the journey or the destination. I believe this also did not match the title.
We had an intelligent FL who initially just wanted to marry in to a good family that could help protect her family.
Her family was willing to sacrifice her.
She met our ML who was great at management and manipulation , at the same time he honored justice.

2 different paths intersect and they begin a life transforming journey.

A fight for trust, friendship, and love - in between their fight for justice and power.

When they get love and power - they continually fail while trying to achieve justice.
A bunch of failures, falling in to traps and tropes.
Which was hard for me to take in and appreciate because it was more frustrating than anything.
But it was a bit of realism. They were new to the capital and new to power - of course they'd fail.

I believe my drama mind got used to the hero and heroine who float up ladders - with only a few bumps and bruises from hitting tree branches.
But these two were being pulverized by the whole tree.

They defeated their enemy but I don't feel they ever found splendor.

Overall it was a good drama, not spectacular.
I wish the writer's would have thought about viewers emotional response when writing.

The cast was amazing - of course the villain was my most hated character but most loved favorite cast member.
Wen Zheng Rong - she plays the mess out of cold and chilling parent. She killed it in The Glory (2025) and she brought it in this drama.

Watching this drama opened my mind to the difference between my 'in the moment' reactions to my overall appreciation of dramas. This drama frustrated the mess out of me. Because it did not go the way I expected. However - it is still a great drama. I recommend it.
