Han Li relying on artifacts, talismans, or pills at the beginning isn’t weakness, it’s realism. The whole point of the story is to show his step by step struggle, not some cheap instant power fantasy. And clearly, people appreciate that, the donghua holds a 9+ rating on Douban. I mean, the title itself is Ascension for a reason: it’s about gradually rising, not starting at the top.
