Pretty sure this is why. I've seen kdramas in the past that didn't have the black cuts but they all of a sudden do on hulu

It was revealed that he gained the ability to see the red strings as a result of the metamorphosis (the other cupids don't have the ability to see the red strings), however, never revealed when he started to see the red strings (at least from what I can remember). Best guess is he didn't start to see red strings until the latest metamorphosis.
