conflicted! π« on one side, I really liked the storyline! I don't think it's related to BL at all lol since it's portraying the struggles of being in a workplace, self expectations, being anti social and so on. I liked the way they presented it and many moments felt very relatable. It's highlighting the issues and struggles of an introvert working in an extroverted work field, and also japanese work culture.
Overall I'm conflicted, if I think about the storyline itself it's actually good, but the bl is kinda lacking.. it had so much potential tho π₯Ή I recommend reading the Novel! :)
very well made queer movie about a gay relationship. It's natural, honest, raw, complex and portrays the realities and hardships of life, as well as LGBT. I liked both of the characters and their dynamic. They showed how love can be a much deeper bond, not only romantically but in relationships in general (such as with parents). It reminded me of when I asked someone what 'love' meant to them, they answered 'sacrifice'. I think this would sum it up perfectly, as the characters conveyed it through the story.
that being said, I cried from both eyes watching this. several times. If you're not into tragic / sad stuff, then this is definitely NOT for you. Otherwise, I highly recommend watching it.
to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed. As a big fan of the original story (webtoon), I was a bit sad after finding out they have cut major plot and characters, for the sake of squeezing it in to 8 episodes. And dont get me wrong, the actors, production and whole team involved did a great job, the casting was supherb! With the kind of popularity that the show has, it could've easily fit the plot into season 2 and 3 (or more). Instead they cut it majorly, leaving out characters and changing the plot. What i loved the most about the Webtoon, was how Complex Donalds / Na Baek Jins character was! His whole background story, Motivation, Complexity, Superiority and his level of being a true Mastermind Antagonist all got changed and simplified to "oh they used to be friends and he's kinda smart". The friend part was straight up made up (not based on the actual story). And what i missed the most, was how similar Si Eun and him are! Also, although they kinda implied it, there weren't much strategic inner monologues during the fighting scenes with Si eun.
Also i feel like i need to mention that Lee Jun Young was the perfect cast for the lunatic Wolf, i don't think anyone could've played the role better than him.
Overall its still made well, a good story and incredible actors, production etc. I just wish they wouldn't have cut so much of the plot / made such drastic changes to keep it short and saved it up for another season instead! The whole weak hero story will still be one of my favourites.
I could write essays about how this is one of my personal favourites, its very beautiful, bittersweet and so realistic. I feel like it portrays many relatable aspects of life. It's very immersive. The characters, the acting (!!!!), the sounds and production overall, and of course the story, make this series very special. I didn't know the story before, just started watching it unknowingly what to expect. I liked it so much that I got the actual book. I highly recommend this series. I feel like the ending left some kind of chunk (or maybe hole?) in my heart, that i will always think about. It makes me think about the realities of life and love, and keeps me wondering about where this character might be now. Although its just a story, in my heart I will keep cheering for the protagonist, hoping he's doing well and has found what he was seeking.
the manhwa was trash so I was surprised about this adaptation, but it seems like the production really knows what they're doing! Great acting, good chemistry, visuals and music choice are nice! they def know what the viewers want. Although the characters are still partly like in the Manhwa, I feel like they are portraying them in a better depth, and making them standup for themselves. I do really hope the series will address the Cousins issue tho!
Dont be fooled by the title!! to be honest, i didnt expect this to be so good!! from the well built characters, absolutely beautiful outfits, production, Acting!! everything has been so amazing! But the best is the Storyline and development, it's truly captivating! It's witty, original, emotional at some points, filled with action, plotting and unexpected turns. I would definitely recommend!
wonderful! wonderful production, acting, chemistry, cinematography, everything really! I was wondering what they…
also, I was also looking towards the dancing in the park scenes, but I'm a little sad that they've changed it, since it was somewhat relevant in the manga :( It would've also been better if they had included more internal monologues / thoughts and depth of the characters (like in the manga), i felt like that was lacking a bit (probably due to time limit). other than that its still great and the acting was just amazing!
wonderful! wonderful production, acting, chemistry, cinematography, everything really! I was wondering what they would show from the manga and how, since it's super long and still ongoing but i think they did great! I only wished they would've included more of the protagonists backgrounds (or rather Suzukis background!), and talk a bit more about the briefly mentioned side characters (Nino, Ernest, Alberto etc.). I feel like they the left out a bunch of stuff (probably due to time constrains), which gave the story less depth (especially about the protagonists), but overall it's okay.
Also, since they often don't show the internal monologues / thoughts of the protagonists in the movie, it might be difficult sometimes to understand their struggles/ conflicts. I see many complains about lacking communication /dialogue and i would say it's partially true, but I think people tend to forget that this is a story about dance! They are communicating with their bodies, their gazes, I could def sense their yearning. I felt like many changes happened on the inside and you could see them express that realistically (or at least what you can see from the outside).
I was also surprised that they filmed in the actual locations of the ballroom comps, like Blackpool! I'm happy with how they handled the ending of the movie as I was curious about how they would do it (since the story in the manga is still ongoing), but I'm glad with how they solved it! (which makes me wonder if there will be a second movie or continuation?)
I would definitely recommend watching it, and for anyone getting curios about the story, to read the manga! :) I wouldn't treat the movie as its own complete thing, but rather as an introduction to the story!

now to the BL part:
I liked the dynamic between both MLs and their size difference ahh π© . But they gave us crumbs, CRUMBS π As someone who read the Novel, I was so excited, only to be let down by Ogami's (not shown???) Character development, let alone the romantic and nc scenes π₯²... Like either give us the scenes or not but don't shoot it and then nOT LET US SEE π like whats the point of that?? (referring to the wide shots, like whyy). Also, the chemistry between the actors is good, LET THEM HAVE A PROPER KISS ππ that was disappointing man, ngl. who directed this?? π₯² It didn't even have to be explicit or overly done, but I feel like they were truly lacking here. The romantic parts felt very half hearted doneπ But I blame the production and direction for this, the actors were great!! and I'd love to see more dramas / movies with them in it! :) (also they're both so handsome π)
Overall I'm conflicted, if I think about the storyline itself it's actually good, but the bl is kinda lacking.. it had so much potential tho π₯Ή I recommend reading the Novel! :)
