Just rewatched the similarly "low budget" BL Perfect Propose, and they didn't shy away from the leads kissing repeatedly, nor showing the beginning of a sex scene and the morning after. It was sweet, romantic and charming, and yes, sexy. Things don't have to be as explicit as say, The Prosecutor's Proposal (not that there was anything wrong with that - it was hot). The problem I'm having at this late date with this short series is they've made no room for anything...substantial. I mean, this isn't a high school drama. Adults don't have to be protected. Neither do the viewers, unless I'm missing something (airing times in Japan?).

That's original Cherry Magic! BTW - the Thai version shows the leads making out and ultimately having sex (although quite tastefully).

Yep, back to the days of Cherry Magic! when my frustration knew no bounds. At least my greatest BL series Semantic Error shows the leads making out furiously, even if later they're only shown lying on top of each other fully clothed. Damn. So many wasted chances.

Okay, thank you. I suspected something like this, but it's good to know as I was starting to get the ick big time. As for Omaeda - of course he's crushing on Takoi! Everyone does (or so sez green-eyed Shiono in ep. 4).

I think he's gay too, and living vicariously through their relationship (which is a little sad, too, but I'd like to think he has a man at home).

As is the costuming budget. Guess Takoi is going to wear that same shabby t-shirt to sleep in throughout the series, which I don't understand at all. They should have bought the character at least one or two more.

Oh my god he's back, and not playing an international gun runner or a drug kingpin either. I've been waiting for this since Call It Love (and yeah, I did try his earlier silly dramas, ugh). Can't wait, and this had better be good,

Hm. I don't know if I like where this is going. Creepy Date, cute sad new guy = spanners in the works gumming up the course of true love. Only 3 episodes left and I feel sort of feel like we're getting a little shortchanged in the "romance between the leads" department. I mean, it seems as if they haven't even slept together yet (which seems very SK, not Japanese). Oh well - no way am I giving up on this at all; just a little frustrated (heh).

I always use the mutual confession/requited love scenes as the litmus for how great a BL drama is, and this one, the original Cherry Magic! and Semantic Error are still the champeens. Nothing else comes close (there's a couple of het scenes I love, but they're irrelevant here). Think this is probably because they're so hard to get right. Also attribute it to the fact that these are adult dramas - high school stuff may be cute, but I'm always thinking "Yeah, yeah, kid - your heart may flutter now when he gives you a closed-mouth fish kiss, but just wait until you're out in the real world."

He has a bigger role in the sequel, which is highly amusing. The character is so different (a former actor, confident, persistent in his pursuit of another younger man) and very charming. I had to re-watch what is admittedly a very silly BL just to see him and Ogoe Yuki play the will they/won't they? managers. Much more interesting than the main characters.

Yes to the dimples! It's one of my favorite facial features, which is partly why I loved Hometown Cha Cha Cha so much (Shin Min-a/Kim Seon-ho = dimples galore).

The other thing is that the lead actors have so much chemistry together!. Oh my lord. Whoever cast this drama is pretty much a miracle worker and has an incredible eye for actors who can keep up with each other, be generous with each other and create a beautiful, if incongruous, couple. Still floored by this episode.

Be aware that the old guy in OFC isn't half as cute as Takoi (in fact he's sort of creepy). The whole relationship is baffling.

This drama is probably better because we have hope that the leads will actually kiss, fall in love and possibly have sex, things that were inexplicably missing from Cherry Magic, even though the leads in that are supposed to be madly in love (the Thai remake took care of those issues big time). However, the emotional journey is somewhat similar only without the magical element - one guy is a sort of sexless but cute virgin who gains a magic mind-reading power; the other guy is the handsome office star who is gay and secretly in love with the first guy. Oh, and they're the same age.

Obviously the similarities are one man is presumably straight and his gay colleague falls hopelessly in love with him (sob).

I've already watched each episode at least twice.

The final scene of Ep 5 reminded me strongly of the similar scene in Cherry Magic! ep 7. I remember being so heartsick for Kurosawa, and so impressed by Machida Keita's ability to show absolute crippling heartache as he walked away from Adachi. But damn if Saito Ryu didn't almost approximate that same awful heartbreak in an entirely different way (there was an undercurrent of anger in his reaction) even though the scenes were nearly identical. It's amazing to me how with the right actors and directors, BL tropes can elicit all new emotions from the viewers even if the situations have become cliched (and I think it happens more often in Japanese dramas than any others).
