Boring
This is my lowest rated drama of over 50+ completed C drama series. The only pros for me were the sets and the OST.I watched this drama because I fell for Lu Yunxi in Ashes of Love, and wanted to see him as ML. Even he, couldn't redeem this drama for me. The chemistry between the ML and FL just didn't work here.
I don't typically FF through dramas but there was so much dialogue, and so little action. I FF through at least 30% of this drama. It was frustrating and boring.
The director or whoever was in charge of approving costuming seemed to think that the drama watching audience wasn't worth the effort of a mask, mustache, or hairstyle change as a disguise.
The FL was terribly written. She was purposefully ignorant, useless, immature, dependent, rash and frustrating! The ML was mostly weak, melancholy, and morose.
Even the storyline seemed all over the place. Like it was just thrown together moments before filming.

Toxic behaviour and not enough main character development.
Spicy scenes between ML and FL were sizzling hot. That being said...I wasn't a fan of the main couple storyline. The side characters storylines were much better. Bit-Na and Nam Gyu Hyun's relationship was so cute, and had a lot of development. I'm happy they ended up together. Sol and Ji-Wan's relationship was refreshingly different for foreign dramas. My favorite relationship was the two teachers. I loved seeing their sweet relationship develop.
Lack of Character development was severely frustrating in ML/FL storyline. They should've provided some information about Jae-On's past, the storyline of Seola, and more on Na-Bi's past.
It felt like, the show-makers were trying hard to justify toxic relationship behaviour.
Na-Bi gets out of one relationship with a serial cheater, and goes right back into another. Her dismissing all kinds of red flags, even after leaving her garbage ex, is frustrating and painful to watch. She had no self respect! The fact she has to ask if he has any diseases🤢... because she suspects he has at least one other girlfriend, and knows he's a player, but still has sex with, and wants to be with him🤦🏼♀️. Kissing Jae-On with another girls lipstick still on his mouth, right after he said he considered kissing the other girl "just a game" 🤮!

Love truly is sweet.
This drama was a bit slow and a bit draggy for me. I had to force myself to pay attention quite a bit.I fell in love with Luo Yun Xi (Deng Lun too) while watching Ashes of Love and wanted to see Luo Yun Xi as Male lead.
The acting was excellent eventhough the story had a few irksome points (like the whole deathly allergic to tears plot) that annoyed me or had me rolling my eyes.
I like how the characters grew in maturity and chemistry. Overall I enjoyed this drama and I think the title is really fitting, especially after finishing the last episode. Love is Sweet 🥰

Season 1 is better than season 2
This is a review of both season 1 and 2.I was shaking my head at this one. It had a great cast and could have been excellent. Instead it was confusing, campy, and disjointed.
Starts off campy and silly, goes full Game of Thrones red wedding and ends happy but disjointed, rushed, and unexplained.
Season 1 was interesting and silly. It was a rather common theme but with a slight twist. I like the concept but it lacked depth.
Season 2 started off well but the last 2 episodes seemed like the middle of a whole different drama. It ends rushed and confusing... but happy... I guess.
The sets were colorful but garish. The OST was catchy and sweet.
I wouldn't purposely watch this drama again.

Waste of storyline and actors

Mostly sad but a worthwhile watch.
Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace is a poignant reminder that sometimes, love isn't enough. Despite being an overall sad drama, it's a relatable and realistic portrayal of everyday relationships. I enjoyed the acting, storytelling, and Ruyi's careful planning for exoneration, without murder or malice everytime she was wronged. Ruyi's vindication, and consort Lings eventual retribution made this drama well worth watching.Ruyi was correct not to resuscitate her love. It died a thousand deaths, leaving nothing left to resuscitate. It started when she confessed she didn't know how to untangle the knot the emperor tied in her heart, due to his treatment towards her after their child's death... but it died a million times when the emperor made guard Ling Yunche suffer due to the emperors own cruelty, insecurity, and wish to hurt Ruyi with his continued treatment of guard Ling and Ruyi afterwards.
Although I appreciated the conclusion, two elements didn't sit well with me. Firstly, the emperor's decision to cut his hair and add it to the box with hers, while I think this action is exactly something someone like this would do. I felt it violated her wish to be free of him. Secondly, the plum tree's bloom at the end felt like an inadequate attempt to show their love redeemed. It was a million wrongs, and decades too late, for even symbolic redemption.
It's a tragic irony that some men and women are so myopic, that even after, the death of someone one who cared for them selflessly, their sense of conceit is so staggeringly large that they will never take a look in the mirror and see their own wrongs. Most will only truly be sad for their sense of loss of the dutiful carer, rather than the love of the person. They will most likely continue to point their fingers at others, so as to hide from the consequence of their own overinflated ego. The persons who truly care for them, are repaid with nothing but cruelty and emotional abandonment.
If you're thinking that grace and love can overcome everything, you're probably wrong, and are most likely just wasting the love and care you have to give. If you're able to move on, and share your love with people who will help it grow, and multiply, don't hesitate. Don't continue to water the dead plum tree of your unrequited love; unlike Ruyi's plum tree at the end of this drama. What is well and truly dead will never again blossom.
