at the beginning looks like a regular historical drama
the main topic is about salt, in this dynasty salt is the main source for state income. because of that, officials are corrupt with salt sales.
at first glance the plot looks like regular historical dramas, taking down evil officials and fighting corruption, but the plot is way more than that.
the Fu family issues build up the story so intensely, tingyun who has to "die" so she can be free from the Fu family. the pacing is so smooth to show the character development of a pampered noble lady who has to learn to rely on herself. all of this happens with the help of zhao ling—the illegal salt seller. from here they have to start from zero, work together to get achievements, become the crown prince's trusted people and finally become capital officials.
their journey is not smooth at all, losing and falling hundreds of times. the higher they get, the more things they have to sacrifice, the more people try to pull them down.
the conflicts are insanely a lot. the main villain is so strong honestly, even until ep 34 they can still fight back. their cruelty is real cruelty, watching this makes you out of breath because of how many victims there are. as long as they hold power they don't hesitate to sacrifice people.
oh about acting skills no comment, all the actors are veterans. acting is so good you get tired just watching it.

the visuals are crazy, the camera work is wild, so cinematic, the aesthetics are on point. color grading, the sets, the compositions are all pleasing to the eyes. just from the camera but the vibes pierce through the screen. even small gestures get captured, so you get carried away with the mood even more.
perfection only belongs to god, the script is really good, but not recommend to rewatch ((nah just for me, because i am tired of the endless suffering))
