I'm going to get some flak for saying this, but Wu Xing Jian's Yan Bing Yun is a vast improvement over Xiao Zhan's portrayal in S1 (and this is coming from a huge Xiao Zhan fan, especially his Wei Wu Xian).
Xiao Zhan's Yan Bing Yun was such a stick-in-the-mud and he had the same one glare on his face in every scene he was in (even if it wasn't much).
I am hugely enjoying S2, but in saying this...I do miss the darker cinematic colors and smart humour of S1 rather than the more saturated lighting and slapstick humour we're getting in S2. The first time the yodeling music came on in episode 1, I did a double-take.
I tend to root for the underdogs who are really harmless, so I really like characters like Fan Shi Zhe and Guo Bao Kun and I hope to see them back in Southern Qing sooner than later.
I tried watching the Special Edition to refresh my memory of S1 after so many years, but needless to say, I ended up binge-watching season 1 all over again because the editing feels a bit choppy with the cut scenes. Plus, why would I ever want less of Wu Zhu? I remember wishing he had more scenes.
I do appreciate the new opening of episode 1 though (research library vs hospital scene),
Can't wait for next week, it'll be a good one for dramaworld: 1) 13-14th May - Lovely dovey coupley scenes between SolJae episodes 11-12 2) 16th May - Joy of Life S2 finally airs after 5 long-awaited years since season 1!
I just saw that their was a reunion of the DHTR5 cast! Episode one is out on China HunanTV youtube channel and it's been labeled as 'Divas Hit the Road 6' but I don't think it's an official season.
I really enjoyed this drama, such an easy and addicting watch. Great to have CPs of equal standing.Just a few…
HaoYue had so much info on people of interest with her spy network (e.g. GYX scarring himself and becoming the Commander of the Security Bureau) but how could she not have known that the Hua family males over 10 were exiled?
Also, did I miss the family finding out GYX and SY were from Prince Ling's family? I thought they only knew he was a Shizi (son of a Lord) but didn't know his surname was Gu. I just saw Shen Huan in Prince Ling's mansion when they were scouring through the medical books...
Also, did I somehow miss the big reveal to everyone that Jian Er was the sixth prince aka new emperor at the end?
Anyone know where I can get the umbrella hat that 大哥 (Tan Jianci) gave 迪哥 (Yang Di)? It made its appearance in episode 1 second part, looks super useful. I did a quick Google search but the quality of the ones there are pretty poor compared to the one 迪哥 had.
Hua Rong's husbang Jiang Zhenzhi (?) - Nooooooo, say it ain't so~ I started to really like him when he realized that Shen Huan already had another girl in his heart and then....his love at first sight with Hua Rong. Of course, they had to make one of the most likeable characters a villain.
Just like He Feng Tian, Gao Han appears as a supporting character in many of Xu Kai's dramas. Looking forward to when he will get a leading male lead role.
Do you want spoilers? There is a theory. I’ll attach the link.https://x.com/hellobungz/status/1777942423244861571?s=46https://x.com/hellobungz/status/1777942485911912853?s=46https://x.com/hellobungz/status/1777942497215619094?s=46
Any thoughts (spoilers?) who was in the cab trying to get to Sol until the drunk guy came? Looks like that person purposely left when the drunk guy was in the scene.
Anyone who finished watching ep 4, can you spoil something about it, please? I don't have time to watch tomorrow…
It was just as most of my expected, Sun Jae was the one who saved Sol after her car accident, but she blamed her savior (not knowing who he was) for saving her - she would have preferred to have died than have been a paraplegic.
Another one that we guessed right was that SJ deliberately called Sol on the radio show in episode 1 (hence saving her and her subsequently becoming his fan).
I'm watching this because I want to see what the rendition of my favourite CP from the original Chinese Paladin 1 - Tang Yu x A'nu (Eddie Peng x Esther Liu) will be like here (the OG Tang Yu x A'nu were the sweetest couple ever). It's been nearly 20 years for me and pretty excited about this remake.
What a great reveal in episode 2! It makes sense why the number he called during the radio show in episode 1 was Sol's phone number...and why he encouraged her to live.
He has to be the one who saved her after her car accident (or at least attempted to), and he may have felt guilt for her becoming a paraplegic.

Just a few questions in the spoiler comment as I might have missed the answers during my initial watch.
