Thoughts of Tani Jan 14, 2022
This drama is a masterpiece for me. I postponed watching the last episode for months because I was so attached to the characters in only 12 episodes that I didn't want to say goodbye to them like this.

Title Youth of May Spoiler
Even though I knew about the last episode of the show to the smallest detail, I couldn't stop crying... How can I describe how I feel?..
It was one of the most beautiful features of the show, especially the love and the way it was written so purely and deeply. They had the best form of love on that May.
The characters were conveyed most clearly, even if their inner world was complicated, allowing us to empathize with all of them, to understand why they did it, even if we were sometimes angry for their actions. (Except for Hee Tae's father. He was a pure bastard.)

The fact that Myung Hee was perhaps the most innocent character in the story but died so tragically... That's what brought me to tears. She's never even been carefreely happy in her life. What I admired most about her was that she never gave up even though she didn't have a reason to live. Even as she waited in that pit for death to find her, she accepted death bravely, by saying, "Grasshoppers".
It's the first time she's asked for something for herself. She was courageous and passionate. She wasn't like the female leads in most shows. She reached out her hand first to Hee Tae, she kissed him first, she grabbed his hand when she ran away from the engagement ceremony with Hee Tae and she's the one who said in episode 11, "I'm going to be your family, let's get married." She took her last breath alone, on the cold soil, with bullets fired by ruthless, callous, robotic hands. I can't forget her last breaths. Imagine how lonely and scared she could be... Hundreds of people experienced it in the 1980s and unfortunately, the people are still going through it...
Hee Tae's recollection of that month with Myung Hee even years later, when he heard her name and shed tears... He loved her very beautifully.
"You have a family, but I only have you. I don't even know how to live without you." Myung Hee, who had a family to remember and love her at all times, died but Hee Tae, who had only Myung Hee, lived. Why is the irony of life so cruel?

I liked the ending of the drama after all. It was great that it could project its name so beautifully. "Youth of May"... It was a very clever detail that characters like Hee Tae, Soo Ryeon, and Soo Chan, whom we had previously bonded with, were projected as "young" when they heard the news of Myung Hee over the years. They finally got what May took from them, even if it was late, they're still as passionate about that "memory" as they used to be.
The show gave "May" a new meaning for me. After "Your Lie in April", my problems with the months began to multiply lol
The songs became one of the great qualities of the show that fascinated me. "Days in Memory" is Hee Tae's song for Myung Hee and in the scene where she died, we heard Hee Tae mumbling it. It was incredibly impressive.
"The Rose" and "Annie's Song"... They were carefully selected, they added tremendous emotion to the scenes in which they were used.

Love, live your life and your love the way you're really happy because otherwise when you look back years later, you will see nothing but your wasted youth.

I started this show after I finished RS too and I think if you like tragedy, it's definitely a good choice.
This may sound weird but I love tragic stories lol

Frankly, I think Deok Im is more strongly than most warrior female characters.

I'm not interested in "strong women." I'm interested in strong CHARACTERS and especially strong stories and scripts. And only Japanese and Korean dramas can give me that.

I don't think so. I don't like watching chinese dramas because they always seem too "meh" to me.
I'm saying you're wrong because you're comparing a character to Deok Im by putting another irrelevant character out there and saying that Deok Im is weak, even if she's not.

Title The Red Sleeve Spoiler
Frankly, I think Deok Im is more strongly than most warrior female characters.
Then you don't understand her character. She didn't want to be a concubine. She just wanted the life she was a court lady and protect the man she loved.
In addition... She was a court woman, what do you expect her to do against princesses or queens? Otherwise is unrealistic.

You don't have to be a Megamind to have a strong will or perspective. Deok Im is one of the most forward-thinking female characters in historical series, projected with realism.

If only the female lead was like Yingluo instead of being weak
Frankly, I think Deok Im is more strongly than most warrior female characters.

You know, I've always watched him in sweet and soft, literally "boyfriend material" roles. I was extremely fascinated but I didn't know how much his acting was so powerful.
He was underrated... I hope not anymore.
