I didn't mean you specifically, on Reddit there was a new drama fan raving about Xiangliu being a sexy vampire who got rude when other users told her that Xiangliu wasn't a vampire but a snake demon. She replied that she doesn't care about Chinese myths and he looks more like a vampire so that's what he is going to look like to Westerners 🙄 I find such Western fans super rude for putting down Chinese culture while supposedly liking the drama. That made me understand that many Xiangliu and YaoLiu shippers only jumped into LYF due to the bloodsucking scenes and not because they read the novel or are normal drama fans, hence they are toxic and hate all the other characters or even the author herself for giving him a tragic end. Yikes.

Glad to see Dengwei has constructive and patient, supportive fans like yourself! Going from a 2nd ML to lead ML is a big jump since he will have to carry the plot and bulk of scrutiny as the 1st ML, and if ratings falter or the drama plot sucks he will be nitpicked or deemed bad. Also as a 2nd ML he will have more opportunities to act in big budget productions than as a 1st ML due to his relatively modest fandom size.

While I hope Dengwei gets lead ML roles, it's really easy to end up with a subpar script or production like Gongjun in Legend of Anle so I hope DW doesn't shirk away from doing good and interesting roles even as a supporting actor, like Tan Jianci.

The whole point of the Tushan Jing character being shown as weak, crippled, with ugly scars all over (except his face LOL thanks dramaland) is to show that Xiaoyao chose Jing despite having better looking and more powerful men she can pick as a princess. Jing is also shown to be insecure over his looks, status, body many times and even his fiancee Yiying was disgusted by his body scars (and Xinyue calls Jing a spoiled piece of jade) so we are meant to find Jing gross even if the actor they found to portray him is cute. Xiaoyao kissing Jing's scars is meant to show that she did not care for his appearances.

I find people who obssess over the vampire trope very mindfucked and annoyingly puerile. Sadly this drama is attracting a truckload of such crazy people who only picked up LYF due to Xiangliu's bloodsucking scenes and don't care about the novel plot, they also insist he is a vampire (HE ISNT) not a snake demon and get upset that he doesn't get the FL or is a side character. Fucking annoying dumbasses.

Yes, he is from the Central Academy of Drama Dance Drama department, his same aged classmate is Steven Zhang who was from the Musical department but had the same classes as him for some modules. When Dengwei debuted Steven Zhang promoted Meet the Dragon on his Weibo to support "his old classmate Dengwei", I hope they interact more in future.

Its best not to spead falsehoods... DW never did ballet professionally (he did take classes as a teen) and did musicals like Cats, the videos photos are on Weibo. He suffered an injury and took time off to treat it, back then some of his earliest followers on Weibo asked him if he was OK and he said he was going to USA for treatment and he doesn't need to support his family (i.e. implying his family is rich, his name is very interesting because 邓为's 为 isn't used in first names, it's the 为from为所欲为 which suits him well LOL) so he was going to take a break to rest. After that he became a model and then an actor in a very small agency when he is the main talent supported by 2 managers.

As for former ballerinas, Liu Shishi, Victoria Song, Gina Jin, Li Yitong, Leo Leo, Xu Kaicheng, Wallace Chung, Qiao Zhenyu, Yangyang have more ballet background and training I think, some majored on ballet or dance/taught professionally before switching to acting.

Frankly speaking (as someone who supports DW) he is relatively new to acting and is visibly unsure of what expressions to make in the big emotional scenes and a bit awkward sometimes unlike say, Zhang Wanyi. The editing isn't great but there are many times in the earlier scenes where he is kinda blankfaced as a default like when he sees dead Xiaoyao hanging in the air and you want more expressiveness? Dengwei's previous dramas like TTEOTM and Meet the Dragon all had the blankfaced issue so he is really still improving.

I personally think he needs to pick roles that are likeable villains or bad boys to stand out more and give his acting more pizzazz, because if he picks standard ML roles he will be criticised as bland and unanimated. He is good at intimate emo closeup scenes like kiss or crying scenes (he is a decent crier) and doesn't suit playing bland good guys (Xiaolin was overlooked in TTEOTM) or animated expressive MLs like Dylan Wang. In a way he reminds me of Gongjun? Like they have the same "issues" in acting and can be awkward but their visuals hardcarry. Dengwei also curiously looks like a mixed badboy version of Liu Xueyi (very good actor, great clear voice, Yangzi's rumored bf) and Xiaozhan who are both better actors so he needs to find his niche since competition is very heavy in C-ent and good scripts and directors will prefer to cast better options.

Idol drama actors are not really nominated for serious drama awards like the Flying Apsaras, Golden Eagle, Magnolia Awards. The biggest award he can hope for is Tencent's inhouse awards and he is not the lead so IDK. FYI acting criticism of his crying scene trended #2 ln Weibo today so he is getting flak not praise. I don't think it's deserved but he is definitely not award material since he is the weakest out of the 4 leads and doesn't use his voice.

What DW should work toward is securing his 1st leading role and delivering good ratings and performances in that. That is not easy to do, he needs to pick a good script and star opposite a more famous and proven actress because IMO his acting skill and popularity isn't enough to guarantee an decent ratings at this point, and good script writers and directors prefer to work with more experienced actors like his ex-classmate Steven Zhang, Zhang Wanyi, Tan Jianci, Zheng Yecheng, Oliver Chen, Dylan Wang, Jackson Yee et cetera.

Oh please. In the book after he ruins her wedding with Fenglong he tells her it was because Tushan Jing asked him to do it and he did it for 37 years of free grain. He also wipes images of himself from her magic mirror the last time he meets her and she's devastated when she can't find his image again. Read the book Xiangliu never wanted her to be with him forever, he lacked the courage to go after her.

So in the end people are just arguing for XL because he looks hot? If he looked like Chuanzi or Mazi he would be hated? Got it.

I think his fans need to be realistic, he won't win any awards because this is an idol drama and he is dubbed. Even the better actors in the drama won't get awards. He needs to work toward using his voice in dramas since he sounds great IRL

Why cant people like you see that Xiangliu himself didn't want to be with Xiaoyao because his army comes first? Xiangliu's biggest problem is that he never expressed his love. It's the same in the book. Blame the character's reticence if you want. Also in the show he tells Xiaoyao to drop everything and leave with him, she says "If you drop everything sure" and he smiles and doesn't agree. What justice do you want? A bad ending for Xiaoyao where she dies with Xiangliu?

Chinese websites are also laughing at the CGI scene where Xiangliu draws blood because it looks like blood is coming from his nipple, why don't you mention it? I'm not a shipper just a neutral, you are one of the worst biased commenters in the thread.

This drama's fandom is so stupid and toxic. The book was completed and translated years ago and everyone knew the plot and ending, dumbasses are too free to get mad over a story that you could have read eons ago and not watched if you had a brain and was less of a toxic complainer.

It's genuine but Xiangliu himself knows he can't give her longterm happiness and pushes her to Jing.

It is not a competition. It's not Jing's fault he can't break the engagement the author wrote it that way for drama. It's not Xiangliu's fault he doesn't express his love the author wrote it that way for drama. Same goes for CangXuan's obsssesion with his cousin. All of it is scripted for drama

Can toxic shippers STFU? Xiangliu's love for Xiaoyao was GREAT but he NEVER expressed it and push XY away to let her misunderstand him time and again because he knew he couldn't give her a home or happy ending. In the drama they even showed Xiangliu had more boundaries (I don't like this! He fed her blood from his tongue in the book😭) and respected Xiaoyao more because he was a demon and didn't want to force Xiaoyao to like him after she becomes female.

IMO Xiangliu saves Xiaoyao not out of love but because Xiaoyao's blood saved him many times, he is a demon and beast but he respects the concept of reciprocity and brotherhood.

Xiangliu also knew that Xiaoyao loved Jing most because her heart ached when Jing was injured or in a coma, and he felt it due to the voodoo bug. That's why he helps YaoJing be together. Letting the one he loves be with who she loves most is very bighearted of Xiangliu and shows him as the most humane character more than CangXuan. That's the point, the demon is most humane.

This is the problem in a lot of Tong Hua novels, her novels love to "abuse" the FL by putting them through torture and heartbreak for drama when it's clear she was living her best life as a carefree single doctor . She is a romance author that has oldtimey sensibilities like Chiung Yao and a lot of women are into that kind of dramatic trope.
