I'll start with the positives because there are a few. The acting and the cast were great. They all portrayed their characters really well. The characters were believable because the acting was so good. The music was also good. In all fairness, the story was good to start with and that's why I continued watching. The story becomes horrific after a plot twist and I urge you not to watch this if you're looking for something cute and lighthearted. I wouldn't watch it again. So, what's wrong with the story?
The romance.
The romance between the two leads starts off fine and despite breakups, they end up together. Unfortunately, you start wishing they hadn't. You start wishing that she got the hell out of there. The male lead is creepy, obsessive, and stalkerish. He's liked her for years and altered her medical records just to make her notice him. There are other ways to get someone to notice you, you don't have to invade their privacy. Tracking devices, gaslighting, lies, and manipulation. He was toxic and showed abusive behavior. Maybe I could've enjoyed it more if she didn't run back to him. Honestly, I think it sets a bad example for younger viewers. The toxic relationship is twisted into something 'romantic' and 'sweet'. He isn't caring, he's obsessive. People can change but the female lead didn't give him enough time to prove he had changed.
I don't recommend this at all. I really hope that if you watch this you can see the toxicity. His actions were not sweet and I'm disappointed that they are sometimes viewed as sweet.

If I'm being completely honest I was bored when I started watching it. I found the plot slow-paced and boring. I expected romance throughout it. I stopped watching the drama for a while and went back again because I didn't have anything else to watch. I didn't expect to be hooked. I started to understand the meaning of the drama and enjoyed it. It was incredibly emotional. It centered around a hospice and you grew to love characters. It was upsetting to see people's lives coming to an end and how it affected everyone. It had an impact on the way I thought about life and death. The romance aspect was good and realistic. When Cha-Young realized that she needed time alone I felt happy for her. I thought it was brave of her to be alone and I think that she needed the time alone. It showed a different side to romance. It showed that they don't have to depend on each other. It was refreshing. I also liked seeing character development. I think that many characters grew but seeing Kang's views and opinions change was particularly nice. The acting was great and I think that the characters were portrayed well. I also loved the soundtrack as it was fitting. I listen to the soundtrack a lot. Personally, I think I'd struggle to rewatch it but I would be able to. The only thing stopping me is the first impression I had.
Overall, I recommend this drama to anyone that's looking for something a little different, refreshing, and emotional. However, if you're looking for something lighthearted and bubbly this isn't it.

I think that Meteor Garden was a great drama. However, I haven't read or watched other adaptations or the original. The Chinese adaptation simply caught my eye on Netflix. I was quickly engrossed in the show. I couldn't wait for more episodes to be released. The actors were all incredible and the soundtrack was great. The rewatch value is a little lower because it is very lengthy and sometimes repetitive, but that may just be how I view it. The story rating is only 8.5 because I was disappointed with the ending. I was very confused and I felt like it could've been explained a lot better. I thought it could've just been me but my mum watched it and was also disappointed with the lack of explanation during the final episode. Overall, I think it's worth watching. It has a few funny moments, many heartwarming moments, and sad moments. It definitely makes you feel a range of emotions. Was this review helpful to you?
