I have seen this male lead in a few dramas, and his acting is so "over the top," but somehow, it works. With that being said, he always delivers a brilliant, likable performance. I root for him as a lead. What I don't like, you get invested in his love interest, but his roles never give you the skin-ship and romance you want.
Why are they acting like she is a single mother she has a damn army to look after one child, and why is the young emperor not in school? He was supposed to have scholars and military genius' next to him. He has to read Mencius and Confucious why is he so inadequate?
Okay, I am nearing the end and it has gotten out of hand. Let me say I did like this drama and the pace was good until toward the end. Then they got off plot and started filling the space with nonsense. First, the 2FL: How has she gotten away with so much evil unchecked? Can everyone be "STUPID"? Second: How is the 2nd Fl able to walk around lurking everywhere all by herself? Third:, No Emperor is going to give a royal edict to his concubine. Fourth: The FL is supposed to know the future; so why is she completely dumb-founded
I am on episode 11, and I like the drama so far except for the FL. In Scarlet Heart, the FL was drop-dead gorgeous, but in this, not so much. I mean, to pull that many men they could have cast a little better. So far, this is what is disappointing to me.
It is hard to say who this story is really about. it should be called "Concubines Take Over the World".

Thanks, anything Yu Long and Yang Mei Mei makes my day.
Honestly, i feel like this show should have ended at episode 24 - maybe 25 to conclude everything. After that,…
I felt the same way I almost stopped watching after episode 3 because it was so dark and macabre. I stuck through it, and I am not sure what to take away from it. My honest takeaway is ML lived a pitiful life.
So, I found the Golden Age the pacing was too slow and could have been better at 24 episodes. ML is top notch but FL young and could not match up to ML but not to many bows. IMO I gave it a 6.5 but I am strict.
I am on episode 36 so I have not finished yet but I feel your pain. In the past four years I have watched many and one thing I have notice is that they are getting slower and I believe that is a strategy to get more episodes for more money (IMO). Here are some of my favorite Chinese dramas if you want to give them a try. I have not rated this show yet but it did get better after episode 30. If you decide to try any let me know how you liked them? Eternal Love "Ten Miles of Peach Blossom's) (My all-time favorite, Fantasy) Lost Love in Times (Better pace good CP) Love and Redemption (Good) Love Like the Galaxy: 2 Parts (Slow Burn) Sword Snow Stride (Better pace entertaining) Story of Yanxi Palace (authentic historical will blow your mind better pace really good )
They are getting more and more bolder, and creative with the use of winter clothes in these Asian dramas. I never understood why they film in such harsh winter conditions. When I first started watching Asian dramas about four years ago they would be filming on the beach in summer clothes with fog coming out their mouths. This past year I notice the costumes have changed with more and more layers, not a good look. In this drama she has on a full down coat, Not exactly historical, lol.
This show needs some tweaking. I do not think it is healthy to introduce a partner to your kids right away. Kids could form emotional attachments and be damaged if it does not work out. Clearly needed help in raising her children but I think she went about getting it in the wrong way. If you watch the show carefully she was determined to bring home a husband one way or another. She was not ready for a relationship and poor Ricky got duped.
The single commentator is cute but he does not know to much about the U.S. 1) Most of the women love public displays of affection 2) Most couples love wearing couple shirts at one time or another. My mom was dressing my dad in his sixties.
So, just to be clear, in America, child custody is decided between both parents without the courts having to be involved even after divorce. If no agreement can be made, the courts will decide based on the circumstances. Sometimes it is weekends for one parent, sometimes it is 50/50. and sometimes you may become a single parent after divorce. Not every parent steps up to be responsible.
I so agree with you when I first started Chinese dramas I was devastated at the endings because they were so ambiguous…
Those endings are made by pessimistic people and storytellers trying to make a buck. (IMO) If at least 8 out of 10 people agree that a happy ending makes more money, more fans, and a longer-running drama, why are they not getting the message? Finally, I will say we must never forget there is always HOPE!
