I was left confused over this weird ending. Was this whole drama nothing more than Gong's movie? It's like Dallas…
I could not find common ground with "A Dream Within a Dream". I never got past episode 1. I don't know why I liked all of the characters and wanted so badly to like it. I will try again someday.
On Episode 9. I get it, they wanted to put some modern-day twists into the drama for more viewers and money, but seriously. Do they really expect us to buy the cheerleading troupe? As strict as China is about kids studying and boys and girls focusing, they then put girls on display in Pussycat Doll uniforms. The routing was risqué, the skirts too short, and they were showing all kinds of skin in the 90's. I don't think you can do this in China in the present day. Do they take us as fools? To top it off, the basketball team sat down to watch the performance. Football players don't even get to watch the half time super bowl show, really.
It’s similar to my journey to you and love like the galaxy, you need to take a deep breath and allow it sink…
I have to agree with you, this is nothing compared to (My Journey to Your or Love Like the Galaxy), which is one of my favorites of all time. I could not wrap my head around the meaning of it all, but I still stayed with it until the end. If you decide to pick it up again, I will say this:
Eventually, the characters narrow in perspective, and you can follow better. I will not say that I fully understood the dynamic of the drama; it seemed like fluff thrown in. I kept watching because I try to give all the dramas, I start a fair chance in case I need to talk it out. Also, for my love of Wuxia. The ML Zhou Yi Ran, I thought, had a good performance. Also, when Li Yun Rui, who plays Mu Zheng Ming [Qing Yan's father] | Mu Zheng Yang [Qing Yan's uncle], who are twins, was a nice touch to the story. The last few episodes are the best, they explain a lot and have more twists. The ending, well, get back to me on that one and let me know what you think.
In the end, I will say I liked it more than I didn't.
Unfortunately, no, but don't let that hold you back; it is still a good watch. I have to admit the massive amount…

what the hell this story is so hard to follow… it genuinely seems interesting but theres so many characters…
Unfortunately, no, but don't let that hold you back; it is still a good watch. I have to admit the massive amount of characters blew my mind in the beginning. Also, I didn't understand what was going on with the plot. I am just going to say, with all of its hang-ups, I just went with it. I am on episode 31.
The emperor is priceless in his stupidity. This actor is spot on in his delivery of this role. Actually I am impressed with all the acting in this drama.
I am on episode 22 and I really love this drama so far. On a side note: there are some scenes that make me cringe more so than when I watched "Hannibal Lecter".
This was truly sensationalism at it's purest. Worst ending ever! Stupid! Wasted my time on what could have been…
Honestly, I was not a fan of the plot, but when it comes to Asian dramas, I have learned to go with the flow. I then had a hard time understanding why they even made this drama. I felt like the FL was portrayed as emotionally damaged and a slut. (forgive my bluntness) Maybe (femme fatale) is a better word. Her character was seductively leading men on. To men, that is not a test but a free pass. Then her relationship with the ML's best friend was just stupid and so inappropriate. I also felt like the ML was portrayed as not so smart, but kind. So, after my frustration reached a boiling point, I concluded that this drama was just for sales and ratings. There is no other explanation, and I needed one to finish it. The plot was so weak to begin with. The ending just made it worse. So, I feel your frustration and raise you mine.

I am waiting for it to finish so I can binge. I heard they slowed down the episodes to make more money. What a shame. I am so happy to hear it is as good as they say.

I will be waiting for him and Zhao Lu Si to come back. Not necessarily together. Let me know if you find any good dramas worth watching. I left a friend request.

I so agree. I could not get past the first episode of "A Dream Within A Dream", and I really tried. It was not my cup of tea at all. The Asian culture really liked it, so it must be me. I loved that you mentioned Dallas. Wow! That takes me back to the endings of all endings. I watched for Liu Yu Ning, and the FL is very pretty. It is too bad the drama was not what it could have been.
I really REALLY enjoyed the premise, but as I continued to watch I feel like I was baited into something that…
Yep, I agree. I did like the simplicity of this drama. It was good, but not great. It had all of the things a decent drama should have, without going overboard. The acting was okay, and the lead couple was okay. I personally did not feel a lot of chemistry, but what they did worked for the romantic inside.
There were a few plot holes or editing issues, too.
I have been waiting for a new powerhouse romantic drama like "Love o2o or "You Are My Glory".
This was truly sensationalism at it's purest. Worst ending ever! Stupid! Wasted my time on what could have been some real healing and truth. They just moved on with no realistic ending.
