THE ONLY SCANDAL IN THIS DRAMA WAS THE UPMOST LACK IF IT
A disclaimer I'm giving because of people in comments my review on this show has to deal with how boring i found it not because i believe erotica isnt a good genre.
As someone who absolutely loves the 2003 Korean film Untold Scandal and the French classic book it’s based on, and even the American adaptation,Cruel Intentions, I have been completely disappointed by everything this show has done.
First of all, the series is merely sensual, not erotic. You don’t need dozens of sex scenes, naked women, and confusing, supposedly "erotic" dialogue to convey true passion. A single breath or a shared look between two leads should be enough to speak thousands of words. Do I think the leads have chemistry? Yes, but not nearly enough to justify an "erotic" tag. Even the psychological mind games between the main character and his cousin felt incredibly boring to me; they lacked any heavy, genuine tension and felt like nothing more than cheap jests and banter.
And am I also the only one who hates it when massive A-list celebrities sign up for a project promoted as highly explicit, only to consistently avoid participating in the exact scenes they promised the audience? I just don't get it. There is only one actual sex scene between the main leads. The rest of the explicit content is carried by relatively rookie actors who are stripped down and thrusting together to provide the "erotica." But let’s be honest we didn't tune in to watch them, did we?
Aside from the botched erotica, I felt absolutely zero excitement watching "the chase" play out. I found it boring and practically pointless. I know this is a story that has been told over and over again, but creators can still add their own twists and get creative. That is exactly why we watch fiction the possibilities are literally infinite.
The side characters were okay not particularly interesting, but decent enough to keep me awake while watching. At the end of the day, I was just bored, tired, and honestly glad when it was finally over. Watch it if you want, but this definitely wasn't the one for me.
