Her mom and Dad are divorced and she went with her mom and took her name in the divorce. Jin Zhao went with her Dad who decided to take care of him after his parents died cause their parents were friends. She went to go find them because he never stayed in touch or visited like he promised as kids because her mother prevented it from happening and cut off all their contact. Thats why she never saw him.

in the novel Jiang Mu’s father took him in and cared for him after his parents died. Jiang Mu was not aware that he wasn’t her blood relative until she was older. They treat him like family cause he was raised by her father but hes not related by blood.

tbf the pacing is a little fast on the drama compared to the novel. they dont really leave much room to explain things or have gradual progression. they skipped a bunch of chapters 😩😭
