Why are the ML lips split in the first episode?! I understand that there was no lip balm in ancient times, but my god, even in toughest winter or when I’m mega thirsty my lips don't look like that...
Read the novel and you'll know. The question would be - how faithful will they stay with the adaptation? For all…
That would be awesome! I really like her books and the dramas so far didn't live to the expectations, hopefully this one does, as the story is really good.
for those who read the novel... how is the romance and politics? is it too hard to understand?
Read the novel and you'll know.
The question would be - how faithful will they stay with the adaptation? For all the other adaptations of the author's novels they made quite a mess, the closest to the book being the Female general one, while the farthest from the book is The double, where they kept only the names, but reimagined the whole story.
I'm on ep 9, but I'm starting to wonder if I should carry on or not. The FL is so annoying with her hate and unreasonable conclusions of the ML. First few episodes were funny and I could understand the hate towards the ML, but as the things started to get explained, the FL reasoning for hate seems baseless and childish.
It was worth watching. The "drama" didn't feel that heavy and was nicely woven in the story. Loved the development of the relationship between the leads and funniest parts were in the VR game. However, imho the last 3 episodes could have been compressed into 1.
Edit: The mother of the ML was a complete waste of screen time. Very bland, with no backbone, no opinions and no love for her son. I was actually especting/hoping that she had a part in her first husband's death, for her to actually have a purpose to the story. But no. Waste of character.
I saw the anime first. The drama really exceeded my expectations. But omg, the FL wig when the hair is not styled is dreadful! Came here just post this. :)))
Book is always better than adaptation. But this show is good and there's no reason for skipping it. Romantic moments…
They have removed half of the original plot for revenge ( her being killed by her husband) and merged one of the main characters of the story (doctor Lin) into the ML's nephew character! That's not following 80% of the book plot. Also not sure why they cannot portray reincarnation topic... The thing is... One can read the book in less than 40h and get a better experience. Just my point of view. Cheers!
I get this is an adaptation, but I'm starting to have an issue with all the adaptations of her books. 50% from the book, 50% imagination it seems.
Not sure why they are not allowed to portray reincarnation as a topic, but why did they have to "revamp" absolutely all the interactions/plots/arcs for this drama? They wanted to capture the essence, but they failed, simply because from start to end they couldn't re-enact one single plot as in the book. They weaved in unrealistical parts just for the 40 ep limit. (I mean who burries a body with their head above the ground? )
Although the FL is beautiful, same as FeiFang in the book, she failed to portray the determination she should have had for revenge. She was simply too soft. ML even though he played well his part, was nowhere near the unparalleled beauty he should have been (according to the book). Yes, yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but after reading the description from the book, I had some expectations, ok?
I don't think I saw a more abrupt ending for a drama before, just to find out that in the Netflix release, at least, the mini extra episode (with them and the kid) is not even present. You can watch it on youtube though.
Skip this drama, read the book instead (Rebirth of a Star general)! A lot of things were changed in the script from the first moments of the drama, which made this go downhill. The book is a masterpiece with funny, romantic and intricate moments.
is it slow-burn? And at what ep do they start to have feelings for each other?
Unfortunately, yes!!! They had their first kiss in ep 20+ (I believe 27-9, don't recall exactly, but definetly 20+). The ending is funny, but sad in the same time - like there's a 180 degree switch between how the ML is portrayed in the first scene and what he becomes in the last one. Don't get me wrong, I'm a girl and I'm rooting for love, but not for the guy to be a washcloth.
Niao Niao (NN) turns in her great uncle (he is the grandmother's brother), so he is a direct family member. NN's…
Ok, so he's her uncle, but that doesn't justify the old lady request. A sane mother would never ask her child's sacrifice for her own brother's (child's uncle) happiness! Also a sane mother would talk to her child, find out the situation and figure out a solution with her child, not just discipline the kid or impose things (as NN mother did). I'm not asking for hugs and kisses, but some sort of communication, as the are both adults! I don't think that's unreasonable even for those times, as it seems possible in other dramas.
Some dramas make you wonder - Why am i watching this? What's the purpose of this drama? This is how I feel about this series so far. The plot is all over the place and I'm having trouble keeping up with putting it together. I'll give it 2 more episodes, maybe it clears up.
A very light-hearted series, with funny moments, no nonsensical drama and a delightful happy end. Also it's short and for me that's a plus. It deserves more than the current 7.8 rating.
I'm not many episodes into this drama, but whoever wrote this either has strained relationship with their family or had a very unhappy chilhood!
What mother would ask her son to risk their life, reputation and wealth to save her sister's husband? Not only is he a grown up man, head of the household (meaning she'd lose her financial support if something happens to him), but the person she's trying to save is not even her blood relative. They insisted 1 whole episode on this dilema! This makes 0 sense to me.
Also, why such a cold relationship between FL and her mother?
As a mother of a boy and a girl I can't relate to the family dynamics in this drama. Hoping the plot gets better later on.
I've always found myself more drawn to the "in heaven" part, after each tribulation. Very interesting to see thier reactions and how their relantionship progressed that way. Overall good story and acting.

"Young master Lu" cracked me up every time I saw this translation because he looks like in his 50s...
