Warning! I love love love this drama so my review is going to be long!
First of all, I can't believe I kept passing over this drama! I think I was reacting to the plot summaries I saw on Viki which led me to believe this was a drama about war. Yes, there are obviously soldiers and doctors in extreme situations in this drama, and yes I loved the action and suspense as these everyday heroes tackle hard situations. It is clear the director respects these professions and wants to show the challenge and perseverance it takes to tackle this hard work . I can't tell you how many people kept telling me to watch this and I just put it off for a rainy day. I am so glad I finally listened and just turned it on one night when I had nothing else to watch. Next thing I know I am binge watching it for 2 days and into the early morning. I actually was so sad when it ended that I immediately started googling everything about it. I became obsessed with everything about this drama. Apparently, this was a massive hit in Korea and I had no idea... I certainly was also surprised when I found out the 2 leads actually fell in love and got married after filming this. Even though they are divorced now their chemistry was off the charts in this drama.
I can't even began to explain how much I love Song Joong Ki after watching DOTS. He is just brilliant in this! His humor and natural ease in the character make you mesmerized every time you see him on the screen. He is boyishly charming, amazingly handsome and steals every scene he is in. He and Song Hye Kyo play off each other beautifully. He teases her and she is always reactive to him which makes for some of the funniest scenes I have every seen. SPOILER! (mine fields, cars wrecks and cliff confessions) They are so seamless with their dialogue and their timing with each other was perfection. They will have you laughing till you cry or holding your heart in every scene.
This drama has one of the best supporting casts I have seen in any drama. The characters are all well developed which is rare for a 16 episode drama. You will fall in love with the medic crew and become invested in their stories as much as the leads. The secondary leads Jim Goo and Kim Ji Won are a beautiful story line and completely different than the lead couples which makes a nice change of pace during the episodes. They are absolutely gorgeous together and stay true as a couple the entire time. Even in typical K drama fashion when one always is giving up something for the other...They always are thinking only of each other...sigh...
If the amazing acting, great script and wonderful characters (aside from the horrible European actors -which is why 9.5- why can't they hire better western actors in K dramas?) haven't grabbed your attention just wait for the breathtaking cinematography. The amazing locations and direction make this drama stand out from every other drama I have seen ,even Goblin(yes I went there)which I loved as well. I felt I was watching a Hollywood production rather then a 16 episode K drama. The story is great and the ending is just perfect! Oh, and the soundtrack is one of the best I have ever enjoyed...I can't hear "You are my Everything" by Gummy without thinking of this show. The OST is amazing and I would listen to any of these songs again..As I am writing this review I am re-watching it for the 5th time...and for sure not my last...just sayin...
