I don't think it was to soon! If you watch DJX's life from his perspective, you gonna understand how much he suffered and lonely he was. For first time in his depressing life, someone was there to protect him. You know, Sz was always special to him. She was always one of the few people he cared about them. First he cared about her as like his own sister but in that night he saw her for first time like a woman. I really like this part that they add to story which DJX and SZ watched first snow together when his last memory of first snow was when his father tried to kill himself after accident. She without knowing this fact, changed one of the worst memory's he had to something bittersweet and comforting. And even before that, Her protection when he was sick and etc, made him kinda heart warmed. That night was final attack to change his feelings and made him eager to want more of this warmness and happiness.

You answered your own q. Her hatred to him was that much, it changed to obsession. After her father's death, she had so much mental problems that no one paid enough attention to her and she became worse day by day.
