I will miss girl rules. it wasn't perfect, but i had fun with it. and it gave me shashagorya, which by itself bumps my rating up considerably. they are so special to me (milklove please come back to me soon). the show is definitely not as bad as people are making it out to be (i saw some comparisons with other gls on twitter that were so unserious). but there were a few points that stopped it from being truly great in my opinion:
1. Prim - despite being a central character, she's so deeply bland. prim basically just reacts to whatever is happening around her. as soon as bambi shows up, she becomes the focus of her entire life. i wish we could have gotten literally anything to build her character in any way outside of her relationship with bambi (be it diving deeper into her relationship with her family, friends, work, anything). namtan is a great actress, she could have handled a complex, layered character SO easily
2. Friendships - prim and min are supposed to be the best of friends, but we don't really see it except for a little bit in the last couple episodes. gorya is also supposed to be close to prim, but as soon as bambi enters the picture, that relationship is quickly forgotten. also, the fact that some of the main characters barely interact with each other is a missed opportunity. i believe specially gorya and praew could have been good friends. platonic relationships can be just as important as romantic ones when it comes to developing characters. i really loved when bambi interacted with shasha and gorya, for instance. some of my favorite moments
3. Toxicity - if they had commited to the toxicity and kept the switched pairings for a bit longer, it would make for a much more interesting story. the shasha x bambi fake dating could have been so good, and the prim x gorya situationship should defintely have lasted a few more episodes at least. even min and praew could be thrown into the mix a bit, maybe praew flirting lightly with one of them to make min jealous.
4. Labels - i actually like that min never labels herself in the story. it's realistic, many people take time to figure out their sexuality, many chose to not label themselves at all. but the way other characters treat her (especially praew's friends in that scene where they explain what non-binary means in a completely non-sensical way) became increasingly uncomfortable. just leave the girl alone.
in conclusion, it could have been better, i know. i believe many people were disappointed because the expectations were insanely high (of course it would be with this cast and premise). but it was a good time. i enjoyed most of the characters and their dynamics and there were interesting plot points (the highlight for me was shasha's story). i liked the outfits and music too most of the time. and of course, i could never dislike a series with shashagorya in it.

please for the love of god, i hope kongthup doesn't fuck this up. im trying to be optimistic, but their track record is not great. apple my love is charming and sweet, but really low budget. your apple was an absolute trainwreck that should never have existed. and apparently my lady's bodyguard will start filming soon, i worry they rushed the script. they could have taken the time to develop something good, with a well written plot and decent budget. we already know ormfolk have the talent and chemistry, but this company cannot keep getting away with relying entirely on the actresses alone, while putting such little effort in the production. not to mention the other already announced projects that the company simply forgot about (besides crush and love bound, wich were supposed to feature ormfolk, there was also not friend and lyric, that were just never mentioned again) at this point, i don't trust konthup at all. deeply unserious and unprofessional team. ormfolk deserve so much better. i hope im proven wrong
okay, if one thing, i sometimes wish girl rules was messier. i wish they had kept the plotline of shashabambi fake dating like in the pilot to make primgorya jealous, i wish they had commited to bambi cheating on prim and actually call it what it is, i wish prim would react to the cheating by going full on revenge mode, i wish prim would go after gorya and gorya would use prim to try to stop thinking about shasha (only to realize that her feelings for shasha are real in a way that her feelings for prim never were), i wish maybe primbambi would come to the conclusion that should not be together in the end. im just a girl who would like some lying and backstabbing in my toxic yuri, you know. not because i condone any of these actions, but because i believe it would make for an interesting story and allow for the series to explore the complexity of these topics. however, ive been seeing the way people have been reacting to girl rules, and now i truly think we might never get a series as messy as that. the way people really believe that portraying morally questionable characters automatically means promoting their behavior in any way is insane (of course i believe there should be some boundaries - like, i personally would not root for characters who commit serious crimes like sexual assault and abuse, but that's far from the case here). i believe this phonomenon is partially because people have difficulty separating the actresses/pairings in real life from the fictional characters they portray, so every character has to be as perfect as their faves.
in conclusion, im really enjoying the series as it is, specially shashagorya, and im anxiously waiting for each new episode. i will probably end up rating it highly. but i do wish creators could dare to show actually messy characters, and explore the consequences of their actions. if there was one series that really could go there, it would be girl rules, i believe every single one of these actresses could totally pull it off. primbambi storyline would specially benefit from it i believe, so far their dynamic as a couple is not really that engaging (though bambi as a character is pretty fun). they could commit to being a fully toxic couple on both ends, and in the end decide whether or not theyre willing to change to make their relationship work. but i find it hard when the audience themselves simply cannot handle any character who is not morally perfect. im afraid this might lead to every gl storyline to become the same, that would be pretty sad.
