I don't think this has been mentioned enough but huge props to the music director. The music was so fitting, to the point I could feel the emotions along with the scenes. I especially loved the choice of 'The Night' by Choi Baek Ho playing whenever an ominous scene occured. The song was rather nostalgic, instead of an eerie tune, which made the tragic scenes even more memorable and impactful. I kept getting goosebumps whenever the track played.

Tbh most of the criticism I'm seeing leads back to people either not having payed enough attention or expecting the show to be something else than it is which is a psychological thriller which means a big part is observing how characters are affected and react, if you want a fast paced plot instead of a character driven story then these type of shows just aren't for you which is fine and so is criticism but I wish people understood what they are watching first before voicing them and giving lower ratings.

Shin Ha Kyun should win a daesang for that smile at the end alone. That gave me more feels than a lot of dramas put together. Dayum.

now that all the ops are compiled together https://twitter.com/arbyslight/status/1381035630793138176?s=20 its actually interesting to see that juwon only has 'monster' on him when he doesn't have/trust dongsik, possibly implying that if he'd gone down this path alone, he would have turned himself into a monster (like we see with what he did to the immigrant, it wasn't intentional he was trying to solve a crime but he still ended up taking her life).

dongsik on the other hand, has monster on him when he's out doing crazy shit to protect the ppl he loves. for them, to keep them save, to bring them justice, he's willing to turn into a monster he doesn't care about what this would do to him, about the consequences he'll have to face (like when he nearly killed the dude who killed his ex-partner).

juwon was so justice driven, upheld the law so high he would out himself above ppl to solve crimes, thus turning into a monster. dongsik loved so dearly, he'd throw away his humanity to protect and avenge the ppl he loved. in the end, it was dongsik and juwon who saved each other. both had their own motives, but both of them were willing to go so far down that path of what they considered 'good', that if they didn't have each other they would have destroyed themselves.

dongsik taught juwon to love others as deeply as he loved the law and juwon taught dongsik to value the law as much as he valued his ppl. by themselves, they'd have to go too far to achieve what they wanted, turning into criminals (monsters), but together, they had someone to rely on, someone to help them move on, someone to pull them out before they fell too deep.

if i really sat down to talk about them i'd never stop but they really saved each other at the end of the day that was so beautiful.

Wow. The acting in this drama- it's a masterpiece purely because of the acting by the main leads. Shin Ha Kyun is so brilliant in just the way he smirks, I think I have rewatched the last 5 mins of the 1st episode 5 times already now. Yeo Jin Goo also holds his own and you actually see him grow as an actor within the drama. The story captures you instantly and doesn't let go even when you end the last episode. I wouldn't say this is a drama about the crime as much as the characters in the story and their journey.

This drama gave me the same feeling as Signal despite being quite different. The story/ the cast and their acting/ the chemistry between all of them/ the freaking OST!/ the script - everything in this drama was amazing. It definitely deserves some awards. Highly highly recommended.

I think it's hard to really put into words how good this drama is so I'm going to stop trying.

What happened to those bodies/mass grave they found in Deer farm?? Did they ever address that??
They don’t explicitly address it, just that KMJ was the one behind managing that piece of lot and that he targets mostly prostitutes (the demographics of the bodies found were mentioned) and many prostitutes were missing (based on HJW case leading him to LGH leading to LDS)

Yeo Jin Goo also talked about his reasons for choosing such a dark project like “Beyond Evil.” He said, “Before ‘The Crowned Clown,’ I felt like I had gotten trapped in certain mannerisms. Before then, I’d gotten a lot of praise and interest, but I could feel that my acting was not the same as it was before. I wanted to keep getting praised, and I wanted to improve, but I didn’t know how I should act anymore.”

He continued, “When I watched myself act, I could no longer tell if it was good or not. It felt like I was boxing myself in and acting was getting more and more difficult. During ‘The Crowned Clown,’ the director and staff helped me a lot. In the past, even if I got a lot of help, I couldn’t make the role my own, but that time I was able to do it.

“In the past, I got a lot of help and advice from my seniors, but for that drama, I came in with my own questions and found my own answers while filming. I realized that I needed to have conviction. I tried that for the first time with ‘The Crowned Clown’ and developed it further with ‘Hotel Del Luna.’ And the thing that confirmed me in that conviction was ‘Beyond Evil.'”

Guys, we stan the king of self-improvement who knows he's popular and skilled at acting but doesn't want to play the same roles and similar characters over and over again and wants to work on expanding his acting range.

Joo Won is seriously getting on my nerves. I get why he's suspecting everyone and in any other drama they all…
Just keep watching :D HJW is really meant to be annoying in the first half (he's rude, entitled, privileged, etc). Also from his POV, people are deliberately hiding things, deleting CCTV footage, stealing case files, he is an outsider and Manyang ppl aren't exactly acting innocently either.

But his character will undergo substantial development. You will also eventually understand why he is the way he is. It's all worth it in the end.❤
