USAHello, I'm Micheal!
I work at SYSNETTECH Solutions, which provides services on virtualization and cloud technologies.
In short, let me give you information about virtualization;
Virtualization is the logical use of your physical servers' ram, CPU, network, and disks, which are hardware called hardware. This structure not only reduces the loss of labor and costs of medium and large-scale enterprises but also provides high efficiency and flexibility.
To give an example to better understand, 1 CPU 4 core 8 GB. You have a physical server with a ram. You are using an operating system, an application running on it. This application uses 3 GB ram 1 CPU 2core and certain disk space at maximum use from your server. Giving a lot of it and CPU to a server does not mean that the application hosted on that server will be high performance. For this reason, the remaining 5 GB. Since ram and 1 CPU 4core do not use all of them, we are not able to get an efficiency through this hardware. Technology is deep, let's talk a little more. Let's consider a server full of 2 servers, we have 20 servers and we have a separate application on each server. For these servers, you can look at the server crowd: server room, design, network confusion, cooling system, electricity consumption cost, licensing cost, installation of applications arising from an insufficient number of servers, many of the costs that we can cover, such as service conflicts and maintenance cost failure problems of each server. There is a subject that creates. If we continue from our example, as a result, we have 20 physical servers and 20 operating systems.
But what about the backup (backup) first, you bought a central backup program. What about the agents? 20 agents are required and when we look at the total, a serious cost is waiting for you. Let's consider these costs and maintain your structure. You tried to go back from backup due to a malfunction in the operating system or application you used. Here, depending on the size of your data, your return will be unlimited. What if there is a problem with the operating system? re-installation of the server, making the fine configuration desired to be configured, and returning back from the backup is almost 2 hours in case of problems (it may take longer depending on your backup size) and if there is a critical application on your server? Also, if the failure is in the hardware of the physical server? Your company may lose customers and income according to the work you do during this period. In this process, it will not be pleasant to reflect on you. What will you do? Will you run all your servers cluster? 20 new servers with the same features and the cost x 2 mentioned with these new servers were not enough for this idea. Whether we are a disaster, of 40 one location 40 other location 80 physical server thinking. You've come to the end of the road, it's time to switch to virtualization technology.
The virtualization software used in today's technology can be evaluated as Microsoft Hyper V, VMware ESXi, and Citrix. Of course, Vmware ESXI (V SPHERE) technology is by far the industry leader. You need to determine what kind of virtualization technology you need before you switch to virtualization technology.
Let's identify together, virtualization technologies used primarily today. Server Virtualization is Application Virtualization and Desktop Virtualization. Since I don't have enough pages, I cannot go to Storage Virtualization. Should you use my well? Of course, you can go step by step or just stop. I will be heavily on the server virtualization side.
Server virtualization; It is the process of logical partitioning of ram, CPU, disk, and network resources that are physical hardware parts on your server with the hypervisor software installed on your physical server.
Suppose that you have 20 servers, your server resources that you use physically before virtualization are calculated and sent to you in a report. If you wish, you can obtain this software from the vendor company of the technology you use (Hyper V, ESXİ), you can also do this with different programs. For example, you decided to virtualize by VMware. The consultant company, which will carry out the related process, installs the capacity planner software on a server within your organization and this software draws and reports the information of the physical servers you are using over the network. It is the total disk, ram, and CPU information of the 20 servers that are important in this report. You can run 20 servers on 1 powerful physical server in line with the resources of the physical host to be extended. And you can get rid of 19 physical servers and the mentioned costs. You have now virtualized 1 physical server. Now we can call this host a node. You have one physical node and 20 virtual servers are running inside. Now it is much easier to get your backups Symantec Acronis, one of the most important backup software in the virtualization industry. You can get your backups on the basis of file image or item by showing your physical server which can be virtualized easily with software.
And they can come back very quickly and even test your backups to work for you. Let's continue without closing the subject. So now you have your virtual host (node) and it is being taken regularly in your backups. 20 virtual servers (virtual machine / VM) are running on the physical host you virtualize, but what if your virtualized host has a hardware failure? I was talking about clusters and disasters in our article series above. In our building, we had 1 virtual node and 20 VM working inside. Now we take another server in the features of this physical host and we apply the same process, that is, we virtualize it. We have 2 ESXi hosts in our environment, so how do we do cluster. Considering the structure, every virtualized server works like a file on a disk, so this disk is located on the local disks of our physical server. 2. The virtualized host needs to be able to access these disks. How will it be? Here, storage products are coming to our aid. And think of a structure like this: we have 2 ESXi servers and 1 stock.
Now, while we're not doing it, transferring data from local disks to disks on storage. But since everything is virtual, it is very easy to perform these operations, turn off your virtual machines and move them to your disks on the storage with the move operation. Your data will be secured even more in the Storage system. After these processes, we had 2 ESXi hosts in the environment. Now all the information about our virtual servers that will serve our virtual machines for ram CPU and network usage on our own is on our platform. Thus, if an event as mentioned above occurs, that is, if our server running virtual machine fails. Thanks to cluster technology, the entire structure will continue through our virtual server, which we added, without any loss of work automatically. And in fact, this system will be making more of its own cost during the year.
Consider the cost incurred while in physical use, and now it will be compelling to consider only the cost of electricity consumption of 2 servers and 1 storage you are using now. But what about disaster status? In this regard, it is in your hands to determine the cost now, if you want to locate the same structure 2 server 1 storage product in the location where it will disaster, if you want a single powerful server and single storage or only for certain operating systems, it will be enough to provide sufficient resources on a single server.
Application virtualization; We can explain the applications that will be used within your company as a technology that enables the use of end-user computers without any installation on the server where the application virtualization process is performed. For this technology used in the industry, let's log in with a few vendors. Application virtualization serves as an app on the Vmware site on the Microsoft side and Xen app on Citrix side.
Apart from being able to manage your applications centrally, it also helps you to update and uninstall the applications you use. Also, you will prevent the end-user from accidentally damaging these applications because they will not work on your client computers.
It will be enough to update the programs you virtualized with application virtualization through the relevant server. When we think otherwise, we had to do these operations on hundreds of computers. It is possible to distribute the application of multiple flashes to the end-user computers. Thanks to this technology, you are at the forefront of their configurations, which have many requirements for your relevant application by end-user computers.
Desktop virtualization; This structure is seen as Virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) in the sector.The problems caused by the desktop computers used in your company seriously affect the time of the related IT department of the company. It is time to meet with virtualization. In this technology, computers belonging to all company users are hosted on a single server and storage, so you can manage user computers from a single central console.
Apart from that, the users of the company can also connect to hardware-independent computers from the location they want. Problems with the operating system on a physical desktop computer become quite easy with this technology. If you wish, you can create an operating system for a user in minutes, install your related programs, shut down all the machines with a single tap, and most importantly, you can back up all your users' computers and all of these operations are done through a single console. We can list the vendors related to this technology as Citrix, Vmware, and Microsoft.
In summary, we can evaluate the effects of virtualization on your company as follows. dynamically using hardware resources via the hypervisor, so that our virtual servers work like real hardware servers. You can quickly create new servers via virtual templates. You can manage and report all servers on a single console. You can minimize licensing costs, reduce hardware and software costs by 50%, save 75% in terms of operational costs, have high technological accessibility, scalability and flexibility to quickly access essential resources for your critical operational applications. I am happy if I could explain something about the subject, if not deeply. The choice is yours. We cannot prevent technology, but we can steer technology.
