Oh my god this many comments and watchers and it doesn't even have a date yet, have you guys been waiting for…
The answer to why it gets banned is about as simple as it is dumb. Because the government wants it to be so, for fear of that it will influence people into not living up to the ideal Chinese masculine image. Both in men actually being that image and in women no longer desiring it. Typical politicised machismo bullshit that somehow translates into corruption of youth and moral standards.
Tho, it can exist in certain books and not in movies or TV, because those are different mediums, governed by different government organisations. Books are also harder to censor, because only one person with a printer or internet connection can write and distribute a novel. But TV shows and movies need crew, equipment, locations, actors
They also got more strict after the fame ``The untamed`` brought upon them , they do this to “create a clean and healthy cyberspace” in China. Online BL fictions were facing increasingly tight censorship, ranging from banning sub-genres.
For example, the reason why so many scenes in Untamed (and Word of Honor) made it past censors despite being so goddamn obviously queer to all of us is actually something that gay people have a name for: "The great straight divide."
Simply put, a lot of straight people don't catch on to queer coding unless they are told it's there and/or have learned to recognise it. These are the people that see two girls holding hands, sitting on each others laps and all but making kissy faces at each other and say "man isn't it amazing how close these two friends are?" It is exceedingly common in certain circles. And it's the reason why queer coding has historically been so successful at its job even after various nations started passing their morality laws. Cause when you're part of the unassuming majority population, you kind of expect that everything and everyone is like you. For you, even. You just don't notice anything that exists outside of your bubble. And thus queer people could watch a movie, sprinkled with little bits that told a hidden story that they recognised, while the rest of the world just took it as face value but with the fame those two shows brought to china, everything got loud and everyone started to notice so from 2021 everything got fucked up.
Now as to why it takes so long to air, the post-production is going through the NRTA, which is essentially the censorship board. You have to get approval from them in order to air. And there could be multiple rounds involved – if you wish to go for a TV broadcast, another round of submission is required. Also if you wish to feature the drama in a large banner on the main page of your streaming app, you have to send in the drama for a second round of approval. For some dramas, that means taking a big risk in delaying airing as both mean stricter regulations and more scrutiny so not only bl adaptation but every drama is filmed with the risk of not getting aired because every single one of them have to pass censorship.
Immortality is not cheap, it is slated to be the most expensive tencent drama ever so in order to air it they need to be very careful about the profit too because if they cut too much out and leave people bitter they will have a huge loss
Honestly - I am on neither Poi's side or build's until a verdict but the fact they had the nerve to mention her name is pissing me off because build came out as a victim too so she is a potential abuser as well and yet I did not hear any mentions of him but sure scream for the authors who by the way SA'd barcode 💆♀️
The way they've been teasing us, even I thought did they kiss already or what😂 but when we got to see Tinn…
I had the exact same thought because they have been together for quite a while so I thought they already kissed but omg I love how slow they are taking it
I came across many people complaining about the kiss being too basic and I understand that but from my point of view, they are each other's first love so it makes sense that they take it easy, its obvious they are very gentle with each other and I'm sure that further in their relationship we will see them shoving their tongue down the other's throat 🤣 like ohmnanon lmao but the actors are also currently young, I'm sure they will have more projects as they grow and their intimacy will intensify
