Yeah, I know. I read it when it was released last year. I've read a few of Peony's books and really enjoyed them. I'm super excited to see how the book will come to life.

But since you put "a little spoil" at the beginning of your sentence, it seems like a spoiler. I think you're confused about which comments of yours I'm referring to since there are plenty here 😆

Only Pat pursues Prem. The manager is not shown in the pilot. There are only 4 main characters introduced in the pilot - Prem, Pat, Bow, and Sita.

Bow is the one sitting next to Prem during the wedding scene, the same one in a doctor's robe talking to her near the pool or something. Sita is another doctor. Sita is Bow's gf in the book, so I guess they'll be the second couple in the series.

Pat came to Prem's wedding and dropped a bombshell that Prem's fiancé got someone pregnant (who is Pat's manager and crush), and the wedding got cancelled.

Pat had actually fallen for Prem at first sight, having seen her at her bachelorette party at a club, but had no idea who she was. When Pat found out that Prem is the bride-to-be to the guy her manager was having an affair with, she just rushed to stop them. After the wedding fiasco, Pat starting to pursue Prem.

Most international GL fans may not know this, but NamneungNoey (the Fire couple) is actually not a brand new ship. They're established way before FreenBecky and Englot. People have been shipping them since their BNK48 era, around 2017-2022 (they were the 1st gen and quit the band in the same year). They had also acted together in The Cheese Sisters, so fans (I'm referring to Thai fans) were hoping to see them in a full GL. And they’re finally in one.

The series is not released yet, only the teaser.

Yup, there's blood, vomiting and pretty gore stuff. And there are also violence and abuse. But I think they may tone them down a bit for TV.

It's horror with ghosts (like a lot of ghosts), and someone got possessed. The romance is not at the forefront.

I'm sure someone already submitted the change, but it will takes some time to be approved, especially when you add a new person profile. Plus, the company hasn't updated the new official poster yet, so we have to wait for it too.

I see your point, and I agree that following a trend is not a justification, but it's a book adaptation anyway. And I'm simply giving an insight about Thai GL books at that time. Planoy's books are no less in certain problematic behaviors either, but the scriptwriter and production made a lot of adjustments in the adaptations to tone down those issues. Some turned out pretty well, and people are loving them.

From your profile picture, you seem to watch a lot of GLs, so you must've noticed that all adaptations aren’t exactly like the books. And like I said earlier, there will surely be some changes with Poisonous Love as well. Let’s wait and see how this series turns out. 😉

One thing we need to know is that the book was released in 2015, and back then, Meenam and Planoy were among the prominent GL authors. At that time, the slap-kiss genre with those problematic characters was quite popular, both in straight and GL books (I can't speak for BL since I don't read it). It’s kind of crazy to think about why people are into that kind of content, but we can't ignore the fact that it was once a big trend in the genre.

And as the trend slowly fades, those ideas no longer seem appropriate with the current audience. Hence, the production and scriptwriters have to alter a lot from the original source to make sure it won't come off too problematic. I'm sure they'll do the same with Poisonous Love.

I may not have insights into every country, but from my experience working across SEA, most TV stations/channels produced their own content/dramas, and hired talent from different agencies as well. In Thailand, for instance, GMMTV and Channel 3 are among the biggest channels that have their own artists. So when they announce a new show, you can bet it’s almost guaranteed to air on schedule. But like you pointed out, yes, other companies have to pitch their shows to be aired on national TV and also other streaming platforms to gain more viewership.

You're not wrong about Japan doesn't give a crap about international viewers. They know their target audiences, and they don't have much to lose by not going global.

Totally understand that we often remember the crappy memories more than the good stuff. 😆 At least we can see some progress in this series, even if it’s a bit too slow. I’m super excited about this series since it’s the first horror GL 😊

I wouldn't say one country is better than the other because in reality, it really depends on the company/production itself. Some projects have secured a solid budget, enough manpower, and locked airing slot/streaming platform, so they can roll out smoothly. But others might hit some bumps in the road. And airing slots/streaming platforms play a big role as well. If the projects are outsourced, the companies have to hustle to lock the deal compared to in-house productions. So here is where connections and media politics come into play. But that's a conversation for another day. 😊

And if you look closely, there are only a few Thai GL projects that are on pause while others are actively progressing with workshops and script readings, some are already filming.
