See, I was thinking during the whole ending sequence that he had gone blind. Because he had fell and his eyesight was failing him in that moment, but between then and the final scene there wasn't anything to tell us what happened...
During the ending though, there were a couple of shots where the flowers looked blurry from his perspective... But it never really told us for sure that he had gone blind (or at least lost some sight).
I reckon he had gone slightly blind, they just didn't really explain it
