basically the female lead’s mother and male lead’s mother grew up together (ML mom was kind of adopted/fostered), but aren’t blood related at all. it is because of that bond that they see each other as family, a term that they will use more seriously as the show progresses because in the beginning it’s just a formality. that’s why the FL calls the ML her cousin. no worries, there is no blood relation whatsoever🙏🏼😄 the series is really cute so far, i like it a lot!

the female lead is indeed mei mei. however, before he orchestrates for her to find out that he didn't actually want her dead, she wants to keep her distance from him because she is scared. but even after finding out that he didn't actually want to get rid of her and that it was all a misunderstanding, she has already a deep bond of trust, later love, for the ML. besides, the marquis keeps bothering and intimidating her and the ML, which is why she doesn't want anything to do with him. he's constantly in her business, harrassingher, and using his position to intrude in her home, she just really doesn't like him. now that she's older, she also realizes that her relationship with him (as mei mei in that side yard) was maybe naive and immature, inappapriate even, just a young girl's crush.
