The upcoming drama SpringOfTheBlade will soon meet audiences, with XuKai portraying Shen Run, the calm, restrained Commander of the Imperial Guard. Shen Run is a shrewd and ambitious statesman who rises to power after his family is torn apart. The role is vastly different from the historical characters Xu Kai has played before.
Xu Kai shared:
"I think the biggest difference lies in the character's core nature. On top of that, the overall styling has a lot of depth and layers, which helped me immerse myself more fully in his inner world."
"Before filming began, I spent time preparing myself mentally for the role. At the same time, I combined my own understanding of the character with a number of carefully crafted performance details. Fortunately, the director also approved of those creative choices."
Xu Kai added that the character's intricate styling and makeup effectively enhance Shen Run's presence, but he hopes audiences will focus even more on the character's inner world.
"I think the restraint and complexity shaped by Shen Run's tragic past are incredibly compelling. Those inner struggles are what I tried to bring to life through my performance."
At the heart of the character lies the restraint and inner conflict born from his past. It is this emotional core that Xu Kai devoted himself to portraying and conveying to the audience.
