It was intentional here ... The ML is the black duckling who does not fit anywhere. There should also be no chemistry between second ML and FL so that the viewer gets why FML does not accept him at all. And instead they chose to show how odd and out of the place their case is. It is confusing and nothing really matches although it is not ordinary either.
